67-72 Factory Blue in a Spray Paint?

Anybody ever find a spray paint color and brand that's pretty close to the factory blue that these trucks came in?

I'm guessing it's that Medium Blue.

My local body shop supply makes it right on site. As long as you can give them the paint code, they can make it. It's not cheap though. The last time I got some made up it was a little over $30.00 a can. I would think the same service is available in your area.

Bryan , just checked your build , I can guess you're looking for cheap and easy , not expensive custom cans. 3/4 of my 68 is rustoium blue , can find the number if you need it. This picture is before I cleaned the origional blue , it matches closer after " polishing" , with a scotchbrite pad!- Bob

Most any paint supply store can match your factory color if you have a small panel that is painted for them to scan the color from and pretty much any auto paint store should be able to mix you up the correct color and put it in spray cans for you.

I get factory paint mixed in spray cans for $12-$15 at the paint & body supply. I either give them the code or a panel to scan.

Another reason why it costs so much to build vehicles in Canada! Everything here costs more

Re: 67-72 Factory Blue in a Spray Paint?

like dyrt, I recommend the spray can factory match paint vendors - here is the one I used: http://www.paintscratch.com/cgi-bin/makepaint2.cgi

I ordered a 6-pack from them. What Iv'e used thus far is a great match (even for my somewhat faded paint) and it appears to be a quality paint. the 72 chev truck page is what this link goes to, but you can change the vehicle year/type, etc.

Re: 67-72 Factory Blue in a Spray Paint?

I don't need the paint necessarily for the body. I have an orange dash that I put in that I should have painted before I installed, but didn't. I plan on doing the patina paint job like they did on TRUCKS, but it may look good scuffed up with spray paint.

If you have GM RPO 516 Orange, [aka "tangerine" - 'Omaha Orange'], Krylon's name for a color that's very close is called "Popsicle''. Find it in any ACE hardware.

Never mind. I see you want to spray over orange paint and get blue.

I'm painting the dash the blue, not the orange, but thanks.

Tim, I'm going to paint the body blue and leave the top of the burb white, but just the top. The doors will be blue, haven't decided about the hatch. I'd kinda like it to be white, but that may look strange if I don't paint the top of the door frames white also.

Then I'll scuff the crap out of it.
