Can't get a wrench on 350 Turbo Tranny bolt! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi, My brother and I have one freaking bolt left, on the top of the tranny, on the right, that we can't get to. Is there a special wrench designed for this, or any ideas on how to handle it? It's a 4x4 and we are dropping the transfer with it.

Use a pivot head ratchet. Or climb over the engine to get to it.

I always had luck by dropping the rear of the tranny/xfer case a little bit and used a swivel socket.

Yeah, I remember when I came to that bolt but damn if I can't remember what we did besides swearing the he// out of it. I would try that swivel head socket and also try lowering the x-fer case and tranny a little bit.

ive used a four foot extension with a universal joint socket then the 9/16 short socket and ive been able to get it out .. if that dont fit your liking you should be able to get back there with the 9/16 box end wrench from up top you may have to move the distributor to get to it

same as above, use the smallest sized rachet you can, but your quarter inch might not do a whole lot compared to a 3/8s. lower the rear of the tranny, and there's more room on top of the tunnel for the extensions to slide in there. make sure you support the front of the tranny.

get one guy to lay on the engine and a second to climb under the truck and hold the wrench on because its a bad angle, then double wrench it

Take a couple of long extensions and put a flex joint and the socket on it. Get under the truck and run the extensions along the tranny from the rear. I have enough that I can have my ratchet at the rear tube housing and this works every time.

yeah pretty much you all have hit the nail on the head but i have found i get less busted knuckles with a 9/16 gearwrench from the top of the motor you will have to move the dizzy for this to be easy good luck.
