Need some ideas why truck not starting...

I pulled my steering column apart thinking I had to change my turn signal switch. Didn't need to be changed so I put column back together, correctly I think, but now truck won't start. I put in new starter but still doesn't turn over. I turn on truck and all that comes on is brake light. I tried to start it in every gear and nothing happens. Could I have dislocated the neutral safety switch while trying to pull turn signal cam out of column? (Column was still bolted in place) I still have to get under and check to make sure power is getting to purple wire of starter. Is there any way to do this with one guy? Any other ideas?
