[Project] "Fnlow69" PART II

[FnLow69]

Well I Decide to do a full frame build , like i've always wanted to. So I'll have a full new frame, porterbuilt dropmember, doored on 22", with a 350 sbc with tri-power, and 4 wheel disc brakes. Its going to be old-skool with a modern twist.
Thanks to Josh (abadsvt) and Nathan (porterbuilt) for all your helps so far.

Here are some frame table pictures. the tables 15'x64" and stand about 2.5" of the ground...




I started the frame rails @11:30am today and got the main rails all tacked together by 8:00pm

Looks good. That old Dodge looks cool, got any more pics of it? what are the specs on it?

Looks Great! How high is that rear section? I know you are planning on running some tall tires. Just curious. You need to slow done on how fast things are coming together though. You can't pass me up. LOL!!!!!!! Anyways keep up the great work.

Im going to try and catch you, better get to work LOL!... the rear section has a 16.5" kickup to it. gotta lay out the 22".

Thanks for the comments, ya thats my dodge in the backgound it was my "i need something to drive quick" project. took just over 6 months to build. I have a 355ci 370hp SBC (i know), th350 tranny, 9in posi rear, Fatman mustang 2 front clip. It real fun to drive.Heres a couple pics for You all

What kind of a band saw are you using? Looking good so far but please keep teh rocker on the truck! Just my opinion (but it is the most important just ask me I will tell you) but doored 67-72's just dont look good at all. Keep the full body and still lay it out, heck if you can do 22's and doored why not do 24's and bodied?

no bandsaw, just a home depot chopsaw. sorry the rockers are gone already besides everyone is layin body, got to be somewhat different. i know the porportions are off so i might chop the to 1.5-2" to help. thanks

Wow your fitment looked good for a bacn saw but it looks increadable for a chop saw in that time frame. I use chop saws all day at work and know how they can "walk" on larger tube!

I also use a home depot chop saw. What i found and most likely what FNLOW did is cut just on the outside of the mark and then take a 4" grinder and work your way up on to the mark. It is a little more time consuming but works great. My chops saw walks about a 3-6 degrees when i cut a 2x4 piece of tube steel. I can't wait to get a nice band saw. Soon. Hopefully soon.

I don't mind at all I am a superintendent for a union metal framming company out of the bay area. I build trucks (cars, hot rods 4x4's) for other people because that is my drug of choise. My wife keeps pushing me to go ful time out of our home shop but I don't feel it is the right time just yet.
Our company has been around since the 40's as a painting company then got into drywall, tapping and framming about 16yrs ago and I have been their about 14yrs now. Most of the time I just drive around checking on jobs sites making sure all is running smooth and that man power needs are meet. Then I am also the guy who deals with owners, designers, city and state when needed. Most of the time I am just an over paid baby sitter

You do HVAC right? I have a question about a vent system for my shop I will have to PM you about.

Ok now back to your normaly sheduled program!

Well Heres an UPDATE. Made a rear cross member with 5 Speed hole in it, took alot longer than i thought. turned out pretty decent......




Than I got most of the frame gussets welded on the side of the frame, got all the joints welded and smoothed. Then took the frame outside to see it on the ground for the first time.....

Looking sweet! I like the rear 5 hole brace! Is there a reason why you only have some gussets welded on? Keep up the great work and nice looking welds.

Yes the rear of the front kickup are not there because i want to make sure they wont interfer with the dropmember, and the inside front one arent there because i need to make two more...

Thanks guys im thinking of making on more crossmember like that for on front of were the gas tank well be?

Looks great! Crossmember looks well worth the time spent! Now this is the replacement frame for the doored truck in one of teh pics right or am I mistaken?

Thought so but just wanted to check! So did you make the frame parallel all the way back? You mentioned you are doing a drop member, is it set up for a tube chassie or are you modding one to fit? I so can't wait to get to my next project and start having this kind of fun! Keep the pics comming.
