check the clamshell half that bolts to the block adapter...see if it's hitting the block right above the oil pan rail.
clearance the clamshell so it can bolt up flush to the block adapter. that's where mine hit anyway. are your Frame stands the SB style? I believe they need to be that type, but I"m not all that familiar with the 79
