Good junkyard day!
Got done early today so made a pass by the old junkyard. Was sunny and not so cold so figured it wouldn't be to bad. Got lucky and the guy said he just got a new (old truck in) . Was a 72 3/4 ton cheyenne! Truck was pretty rusty but all the parts were still on her. Lots of little pieces that I never seem to be able to find and even a couple of bigger pieces. You know that smile you get when you lean in the window and see the factory tilt all bolted in place yet!!!!!!! Also had a perfect windshield with the chrome trim! Checked the glovebox sticker and I guess I must have missed the AM/FM as that part of the dash was totally hacked up. Got done pulling what I had time for and was packing up stuff when I looked in the box of the truck next to it and found a pretty decent driver fender already removed. What a Day!!! just had to tell someone cause when I got home and my wife saw me unloading my treasures she just shakes her head and say's --more junk

Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just finished re-working my black door panels. Scrubbed them up with SEM Soap after removing the trim, shot them with SEM sure-coat landau black and they look like new. polished the trim and reinstalled. Now if I can get some other projects done around here......

Re: Good junkyard day!
I went to a junkyard today, The guy had a 72 cheyenne 20,the doors were rusted out, and the fenders were rusted out he wanted 250 bucks for one door and fender. I kept looking around and found a later model with what appeared to be a good quadrajet with headers and fairly new dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers on them so I asked how much he would sale them to me for. He told 130 for the headers themself,I told him he could keep his junk. It seems all the yards down here want to get top dollar for the stuff they have or they would rather get 50 dollars to have it crushed. Bunch of rip offs or crooks or both.

Re: Good junkyard day!
Looks like a worth while spent day ,I like to find 3/4 ton trucks or suburbans for some reason they usually have quite a few more options than the 1/2 tons. Way to Go........

Re: Good junkyard day!
well one thing ive definetly found is.. mmmm.. well two things... one, in a junkmans eyes, what they have is gold, and what you have to bring them is crap... second, is that if i find a vehicle like that i want a few big parts off, i dont tell them about the parts i want, i offer to buyt he whole vehicle... convince the wife that itl be gone in a few days and i take my time taking parts off with no ruch to get out before close, then u have even taken the vehicle back to the yard and get 50 for scrapping out whats left... even found that pays for a rent of a uhaul dolly or trailer to get it too...

Re: Good junkyard day!
Hey guys, i frequent an old school junk yard around here in Waterloo that has probably 15 or so 67-72's in it. I went scowering a few weeks back just looking for AC parts. Some of them are bad but there are some good parts out there. I call it old school because its a guys property on the back side of a dike outside a residential neighbor hood, you walk through his acres, pull your part and say "Hey Joe how much for this?" He will then scratch his head and go.."ummm gimme $10 bucks for it" I then say "cool."

Re: Good junkyard day!
Man you got lucky!
One of the local yards here wanted 30 bucks for a drivers seat belt on a 86 ford. Their greed made me put the part down and walk away.

Re: Good junkyard day!
Cool stuff! The old junkyards are getting really hard to find now. There used to be one here where I live that opened sometime in the 40's, and it closed in the early 80's because the old man retired and nobody wanted to run it so everything there was sold for scrap.

Re: Good junkyard day!
Yeah recently Joe and his cool ass junkyard have been under alot of scrutiny {spell check} over him selling out to the city because his land is kind of on the outskirts of a neighborhood. From what ive been told there have been lawsuits in the past but it allways comes back to 1 thing. His dad had the land and hes grandfathered in...SOOO about a week after i went junk yard trolling i found out somone set his place on fire. Joe lost all his tools and a crappy barn but i dont think much of his cars burned up. If anyone wants to go scrapping here in Iowa its located in Waterloo on the southside of Black Hawk road, past the neighborhood up and over the dike. Its called Joes Junk Yard but i dont think he has a phone # to be reached at. Theres probably 10-15 maybe more 67-72's there. I like to support a guy that keeps all the old cars/trucks around ya know...

Re: Good junkyard day!
Wish there was some good yards around here. I would love to be able to walk into a yard and find a 67-72 truck let alone anything useable. Good Score Eh!
