TaskForce IFS without lowering

My wife wants to make a TaskForce her daily driver. So that means she wants a IFS, disc brakes, and highway worthy. The main thing though is she wants it to sit like a truck, which means basically no lowering. We'll keep it 2wd and don't want it jacked up, either.

Currently we don't have a frame to use so we can buy either a new frame or buy a stock frame (found one with a cab for ~400) and swap an IFS on it. I've searched and searched but the issue is that everyone wants to lower their truck into the weeds it seems. Open to a Dodge Dakota, Explorer or other frame if it will fulfill what we are looking for. The e-zchassisswaps appear to basically do a body lift, so that won't work. Not looking to re-invent the wheel, trying to do this as easily a possible really to improve the chances of finishing the project.

I think you need to give the guys at Kimbridge a call. They have a front clip that uses S10 parts. It may be a little lower than stock but you could raise it with different spindles.

Kimbridge is right down the road from us and I like the thought of using S10 pieces. I'll give them a call on Monday.

Complete frame and suspension from 89-94 type trucks works well.

Any more details than that? Never seen a truck with that frame swap, nor it even suggested.

Never personally done one but I see many here. Was more popular 14-15 years ago. Hoppy from American Racing did a very nice one, you see it often where they use the newer stepside bed as well. The ones I have seen look almost stock until you look closely.

Nah, that's a 1 ton frame. 1/2 ton is perfect, drives like a new truck.

Back about 14 years ago there wasn't a lot of cross members available, probably none. it was either a Camaro clip or leave the stock axle. Guys were doing this swap with a complete donor truck, one of the things that made it a popular swap ( at least in Calif)was the use of the stepside bed also. Have you seen those? Kabwe might have some first hand knowledge on this frame swap. Now there are lots of bolt in/weld in cross members for these trucks

Frustrating thing about these trucks... so much was "back in the day", which means most of the information has been lost. People seem to spend a lot of time re-inventing the wheel.

I have seen a couple pictures of them with the modern step sides, but no actual information on the trucks as to how it was done, just pictures.

Probably hard to find a "how I did it" blog, most guys get the donor and get to work. It is nice to get "tips" from those that have done it. It is way easier to buy a ready made clip but the frame swap with the 88-97 makes it handle like a real modern truck. In fact it is a newer truck with the sheet metal changed.

Scott's will build an IFS crossmember with any ride height you want.

I think (due to my lack of spare money) I'd buy that stock frame and then get the IFS (steering box and all) out of a '74-'86 chevy truck and drill new holes in the old frame and bolt her in w/grade 8 bolts. Trim the stock steering colum add the bearing in the end of it for support, add the misc. steering joints and shafts to mate up the box and and the colum. When I done an AD that way I also took the front-side frame sections so that I would have both perfect drilling jigs for each side. When this is done on an AD truck you either have to add 1/2 spacers to the frame or narrow the IFS cross member. I know the TF truck frames are wider than the ADs, but how much I do not know.

Wow.
If I'd known what the final result would be, I might have taken up a pro welder buddy on his offer to put the '57 sheet metal onto a '78 C10 frame he had.
Would sure have simplified a whole lot of things.
That looks like the ticket for a TF that you still want some work out of.

I don't know when but a C10 frame and Chevy 6.0 / 4L80E swap is looking good for my 2nd build.

Late to the party for this but Steve at Industial chassis is building crossmembers to order for AD or TF trucks that use Dodge Dakota 2 wheel drive suspension pieces.
