Re: Rate my parts order

IMO....degree wheel is too small. Get the larger one, not much more and WAY easier to use. I wouldn't take those heads off for the head gasket change especially if it's the 9.4 compression I read in Jegs. I also wouldn't put in the screw in studs. Waste of time unless you're really going to zing it or you have killer valve spring pressure. I didn't see springs in your order so I wonder about the retainers. You can get roller rockers for vortec heads that don't need guide plates. If Jegs put the cam in, I'd put the intake on it, check TDC with the balancer, set the timing and run it. With that cam and intake, 375 hp if it's the 350 and maybe 400 if it's the 383.

Thanks for the advise

Headgaskets. I primarily wanted to achieve a more optimal squish. Would you be concerned with compression?

I did get the GM LS oem beehive springs. They supposed to allow for the extra lift

Re: Rate my parts order

What carb?
Why rams horns? Rest of motor built for flow. You need headers!

Re: Rate my parts order

Holley 3310. At least that is what I have and I was planning to reuse it.

Ram horns. The idea was to dress the engine as a 283 like orange everything, some nice finned covers with no pcv, filler neck If I could pull that off. And ram horns. I like the look. Although if leaving to much at the table I would reconsider.

Re: Rate my parts order

Holley is good!!
With the electric pump you need to watch fuel pressure. Wouldn't hurt to install a fuel regulator.
If you don't like big oil leaks you'll need a pcv. Here's an excellent way to hide one.

If you insist on the rams horns, you could get them to flow like headers by extrude honing them. Here's a wiki on that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abrasive_flow_machining
Google extrude hone for companies that do it.

Extrude honing looked good, thanks for the info on that, never had heard about it.

I will run a pcv and had in mind something like i the link you provided. Gotta say the guy in that link pulled it off nicely, he might soon have a copy cat on his hands 8).

Any take on what fuel pressure I should be aiming at w/ carb?

Re: Rate my parts order

Holley carbs are better at handling fuel pressure than an edelbrock but try for a max of 6 psi.
There are other ways to install a pcv too!
You can drill a hole into the intake between the dizzy and the intake runners and install a baffle/grommet. I see that intake will work to do that.
But you need a way to get air into the motor somehow.
That intake has no provision for an oil tube/breather at the front.
