New Gm Tail Gate Fs W/stamped Letters

THIS IS A NEW GM TAIL GATE MY BUDDY WANTED ME TO TRY TO SELL FOR HIM, IT IS A NEW 73-87 (GM) TAIL GATE THAT HE BOUGHT FOR PICK UP THAT WAS SOLD BEFORE HE FINISHED IT. THE TAIL GATE SAT UNDER THE EDGE OF HIS BOAT SHED AND GOT A FEW SURFACE RUST SPOTS ON IT BUT IT IS NOTHING BAD. THIS GATE HAS NEVER BEEN INSTALLED. AND HE WANTS $185.00 FOR IT. I DON'T THINK HE WILL SHIP, IT MAY BE PICK UP ONLY BUT IF REALLY INTRESTED WE CAN SEE HOW MUCH THE COST TO SHIP WILL BE. I WILL TRY TO ADD PICS AS SOON AS I GET THE GATE. ( THIS GATE IS ABOUT 450.00 NEW)

THANKS PT

Just so you know, that tailgate is $187 at GM parts direct. Not $400.

NO,JUST SO YOU KNOW THIS TAIL GATE WAS 475.00 BECAUSE IT WAS ORDERED OUT OF CLASSIC INDUSTRIES. SO TO PROVE MY POINT I TOOK A PIC OF THE CATALOG. I AM TIRED OF PEOPLE TRYING TO TELL YOU WHAT YOU HAVE, HELL I HAVEN'T EVEN PUT THE PIC OF THE GATE ON HERE YET, HOW DO YOU KNOW IT IS 187.00 BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN IT.

Settle down there, Joe was simply informing you it is cheaper new thru GM...your buddy will only sell it if he finds someone who is willing to pay that much. In other words, you might not get much response since it is "technically" over priced.

GM dropped their prices lately...your buddy must have purchased it "at the wrong time".

I wonder why the price difference of $202 between the 73-80 and the 81- 82? Aren't they practically the same except for some changes on the latter?

All I was saying is that if I needed a tailgate, I would call up my local GM parts guy and buy one. I wouldn't be paying shipping and I would pay slightly more than the prices listed at GM parts direct. Anyone can buy from them. Here's the link. The part number for an 81-87 (or through 91 on a crew cab dually...) Chevrolet Pickup tailgate is: 15628608. The price from GM parts direct is 187.98.

I didn't know it was a 73-80 tailgate since you listed it as a 73-87. They changed the bottom of the tailgate around the hinge in 1980 to make the gap wider. I assume this was to prevent bowing your tailgate if you were hauling gravel or some bulk material and got some pinched in the gap when you shut your tailgate. From the outside, the tailgates look identical, and mount the same. Unless I was doing a perfect resto on a 73-80 truck, but I would buy the 81-87 version and pay less since I wasn't shipping it from SC. Maybe your tailgate will be a great deal for someone, I'm just sharing information.
