Rearend ?'s

I have the factory 6 lug\ 12 bolt rearend. I just swapped my front end to a 5 lug disk set up. My question is , would it be best to use 5 lug axles in my same rearend (do they fit?), or simply buy a 5 lug rearend from a donor?

Re: Rearend ?'s

I would say it depends. What year is your truck? If you have a 69 or earlier the axles are shorter than the newer 5 lug. 1970 was a transition year and early models have the shorter axles while the later ones have the longer axles. You can only use the one longer 5 lug axles in your current rear end if you have the wider 70 model.

You can get 5 lug conversion axles from a vendor (Early Classic, CPP) to convert to the 69 and earlier rear ends.

Re: Rearend ?'s

On my 67 with 6 lug I converted to 5 lug I just took to a powertrain shop here locally an had my axles redrilled for 5 lug. That way you know they will fit. Plus you keep your same gear ratio.

Re: Rearend ?'s

I tryed to drill my old axles. Local shops wouldn't do it. I got conversion axles from summit.
