Power steering question

Will a 1983 3/4 power steering gear box and pump fit on a 1960 GMC small block Chevy?
I always see that a 1/2 ton gear box is always mentioned in the conversion.
Thanks
Bob

Re: Power steering question

I am working on a power steering conversion now, January 2012. I purchased the power steering gearbox from a 1985 Suburban. The 1985 gear box has a different bolt pattern. So, I am doing a bolt pattern of the 1985 gearbox, then I will do a pattern of the existing bolt pattern on the frame. I am going to buy some metal stock and transfer the two to the metal stock. Before drilling the holes in the stock for the frame, I will align the 1985 gearbox (mounted on the metal stock plate, then mark the fram pattern to the plate) on the frame and mark the location. The frame pattern will have the holes that need to be drilled in the stock plate.

Re: Power steering question

As long as that is a '84 C20 and not a K20, the steering box will work just fine. As for the pump working on your truck that all depends on what engine is in your '60. The '84 engine would have run a long water pump. If your '60 has a small block with a long water pump, then chances are good that it will work.

Thanks for the plug Ron

Unfortunately I don't currently offer a power steering box adapter plate for the '60-'62's. Just for the '63-'66's. I hope to find some time in the spring to work on one for the '60-'62's.
