Front bumper

Does anyone else think that the front bumper looks like it is on upside down? When I took mine off to repair and paint it I noticed that it looked kind of funny and I thought it was on upside down. When I went to put it back on I tried to put it on "rightside up" which actually turned out to be upside down. Because of the angle of the frame rails, the bumper wouldn't go on that way without some serious spacers. So I put it on the way it was because thats the only way it would fit then I looked at some pictures of other trucks and noticed that they all had upside down looking bumpers. It's very odd to me.

I read some GM literature and it turns out that this was done for a reason. With the bumpers turned that way (seemingly upside down), it was found that people perceived them as being much more substantial than they actually are. Supposedly, if you turned them around they would look skinny and less substantial. It is, apparently, an optical illusion. I bet you would never have guessed that! I thought it was interesting as many people have voiced the same concern.

i dunno...i prefer the factory way for the front bumper...flipped, it mimics a front roll pan IMO (which i don't like on these trucks)...maybe if it was spaced out a little farther?....but i think the rear bumper looks good flipped

I was wondering if anybody has removed the front bumper. I was thinking of cutting off the part of frame that sticks out and make a sort of rolepan like when you remove the rear bumper. Go straight across to bottoms of each fender.What do you guys think?

To me that flipped front bumper makes it look similar to the Ford's of the era. I like the stock bumpers.

maybe a later model bumper would look better, like a 67-72 perhaps.

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like the 57-60 F*rds. I really like the rear bumper though.

It's from a 75 chevy truck. I liked the squared off look. Hope to b grabbing a van rear bumper that'll match tomorrow at the JY...

Can anyone show me the Mounting Brackets for the Back bumper from the bottom. I mounted mine and it does not look right for some reason. its tipped down too much from its stock position.

Here is a photo of what mine looks like....looks tipped and too close to the bed. and the Bed is adjusted all the way forward

I really like the front bumper flipped but it seems like the grill and hood stick out further than the bumper. I would much rather bump something with my bumper than my grill. Does aney body have any pictures of a step side bumper turned up side down
