Headlight switch, dome light, and high-beam indicator questions
I put a used dash in my truck yesterday. First, i was having problems getting the light switch rod out, so i put a pair of vice-grips on the button on top of the switch, and pulled the sucker as hard as i could. It came out, but i think i runied my switch in the process. Now, the dome light won't turn off, with the doors shut, even though the switch rod is turned all the way clockwise. Did i ruin my switch or is it something simpler? Also, while taking apart the dash to clean & paint it, i lost whatever turns the high-beam indicator light red. What does this part look like, and where does it go? If i cant find it, what else could i use to turn the light red?

I think you might have ruined the switch, there is a button on top of the head light switch under the dash, you push that in and then pull the knob and stem on out, no telling what happen when you snatched it out with vice grips! LOL! Hey, I have done some silly sh!t like this also, I have to tell me self patience

Lol, i tried pulling it out pretty hard, then someone on the board told me about the button. I put the vice-grips on the little button on the top of the switch, so i could yank the switch out with both hands. Even with the button down, it was a b!tch to get out!

Dang, makes me remember the first time I took mine out too. You p u s h the button behind the dash, and then pull the knob and shaft out of the switch. hehe. Its also easier to get it out if the lights are off at the time. If you need a switch I have one in the garage that works, but not like new. And yes, if the dome lights stay on all the time, you broke it. Good luck, Jeff.
Dang, just looked at your profile. My uncle lives in Willow Springs. Russel Delashmit. I pull the knob out to the headlight position, then push the button and pull the knob/shaft out. Should come out easy.

Well, i got the rod out like i said, but i miss my dome light lol. I know a non-running old truck i can get one out of for free though. Red71cheyenne, i dont think i know your uncle (i have proably seen him around but dont know his name). Ask him if he has seen some kid driving around a old yellow Chevy pickup and he will proably know who i am . It is a small world, lol.

O.K. You don't have to pull the rod out to get the head light switch out it is screwed on also. You turn the knob left and it is glued but mine comes right off now days after the first time, also the bright light indicater is like the turn signals there is a red cap with the little paper towel roll inside your dash to make it red goes in behind the speed odometer. It probablly fell out while putting it back to gether.
