4" drop axle

hello i have a 4" drop axle on a 1950 gmc truck can anyone tell me shock length needed and good brand of shock they have used

Should be the stock shock length. look it up on rockauto.com

Yep, the shock length doesn't change with a dropped axle. The axle is in the same spot it was before it was dropped in relation to the frame it's just 4 inches closer to the ground.

thanks for replys so when i look at the POL catalog for instance they list a shock for a 3-4" drop is that more for a mustang II front end

Yes Mustang, S10 any suspension that uses A frames and coil springs to drop the vehicle. The drop axle your just stretching the spindle end upward and leaving the spring to axle distance alone.
