Gas tank relocation

Was ordering a bunch of stuff to redo the floor, carpet and seatbelts in my 66 c10 and I want to relocate the gas tank and I have a question. I know one way this was done was to use a blazer tank which requires some modifications to be made to the bed crossmembers but do the kits offered by a variety of sites also require the same crossmember mods? I was thinking of getting my tank from Brothers/Holley and their site says very little on the subject and I don't see why a product specifically made for this would require cutting and welding.

You can mount the tanks without cutting, but of course it's going to hang down lower. The other thing is when I did mine I had to use nutzerts for the bed boards above the tank because there's absolutely no way to get a nut started for those 4-5 strip bolts unless you put the bed boards in before the tank.

I used a Boyd's aluminum tank mounted with their mounting kit. It is necessary to remove a small cross member behind the rear axle. I would assume any tank mounted in this location would require the same.

I used the LMC kit. It worked out well.

I used one from a Jeep CJ5 and a fill spout in the box that came off a Dodge truck. Maybe it's a little small at 14 gallons. I had to use a different fuel gauge.

That's incredibly cool and I'm wondering if your truck is a 64 that probably didn't have original reverse lights. My 66 has them and I think state inspection laws would frown upon this mod BUT I am going to inquire about it. I really don't want to cut a hole in an otherwise pristine bed but lack of options will likely say otherwise

I moved the tank to under the bed (pictured). To fill up, I will need to access the bed, however I have also added another pic of an idea I found online (not my idea, not my truck). But I thought it was pretty cool. Your gas line would need to run through the rear and I thing there are some Blazer tanks already designed for this. EDIT: Sorry but I cannot figure out how to add photos... I will look into it.

I used a 64 mustang tank. I did open the top of the frame rail about a half an inch on each side to fir the tank up a little higher and reversed the rear crossmember. It tucks up in very nicely.

No experience with them here but looks like a decent product and I love how they have a variety of sending units with varying ohm ratings for specific applications as I want to keep my stock gage. Seriously considering this one because it's 18 gallon and won't hang to low. Thanks for posting the link

Tech support at Tanks Inc says this tank will extend 6-7/8” below the mounting flange, in case you want to measure twice and pay $$$ once
