Skinny's on the front ?

I did a search for this as well to no avail.

My '75 C-10 is the new recipient of a somewhat mild 496. The leaf sprung truck is now seriously traction limited (big surprise) ---

I am now interested in taking it to the next level and a good friend of mine who is an accomplished "chassis man" has agreed to take on the challenge ---likely doing a ladder bar rear end with a 9 inch (but a 4 link has been discussed as well)

I've got an idea of what we're doing with the rear and have a solid plan, --- but now i am contemplating cosmetics, so who makes a skinny drag racing front wheel in a 5x5? (15x4 or 15 x5) and if nobody does --- is there a 5 x 4.75 rotor that will fit the truck spindle ? This is more of a late 80's style Pro-Street build than a true racing truck, so appearance is everything (read: poser) but the truck does have a little bit of heat underhood

Cutting a set down is a possibility i guess, but just figured i'd check for anything obvious first i should do instead

Re: Skinny's on the front ?

I don't know about the wheels, but according to another member here, a rotor from a '72 Impala will fit the truck spindle and is a 5 x 4.75" stud pattern.

Re: Skinny's on the front ?

70 to 73 BB impala SS have 5x4.75 bolt pattern. They will fit the 67 to 70 c10's. You would have to double check your bearing sizes for the 73 and up trucks.

The pics is of everything off the impala brakes. calipers, rotors, bearings, pads, etc....

Re: Skinny's on the front ?

Well I guess I should have done some research before I said anything......I was just going on what another member posted, and I didn't note who it was. Anyway, I did some research now and a '72 Impala does have a 5x5" wheel bolt pattern. The last year of the 5x4.75" wheel bolt pattern on an Impala was 1970 and they were a 2 piece hub and rotor. The '70 Impala uses the same wheel bearings as a disc brake C10 so the hubs should work, but I don't know if they will line up with the caliper. Also, out of 2 online sources I checked only one offered the rotor and it was $103.00. Then you would still need the hub.

Sorry for the misleading information

Re: Skinny's on the front ?

Looks like you posted while I was doing some final searching. I'm not aware of any Impala SS's in the '70-'73 years. Could that have possibly been the Monte Carlo SS's? or the Chevelle SS's? Those both had 5x4.75 bolt patterns thru '72. Which spindle did you use on your truck? Where did you find the hubs and rotors? Those look like 2 piecs hubs and rotors, is that correct?

I spent an entire day with Advanced Auto Parts looking at different brake setups. There was a 454 SS and a 396 SS in the parts list. 1969 Impalas were the last of the 5x5 pattern. Same with the BOP cars. My brakes are from a 72 Impala SS. MC SS's and Chevelle SS had the same bolt pattern but the rotors were not 12.25". Being that the Impala's weigh more than most C-10's it was common sense too me. I am using 2' drop spindles for 67 to 72 c-10's. I believe from POL.

This just a rim?. My 1966 Olds Dynamic 88 had 5x5. I know what is on my truck. So if they "really" are not for an Impala SS, Then there are alot of wrong parts being sold at auto parts counters in the US. My Draglites are 5X4.75 bolt pattern only.

I do know that the GM car brakes are a cheap and easy upgrade for the trucks. All the vendors that I have talked too. Are not aware of this either.

Re: Skinny's on the front ?

I have Weld draglites on the front.. 15x7 on a 5x5bp... I know, not the skinniest, but it's the skinniest i could get to match the rears without having to do a spindle swap.

Re: Skinny's on the front ?

Holeshot makes 15x5 with 5x5 pattern also. Kinda pricey...

Re: Skinny's on the front ?

I cracked one of my 15X5 skinnies on my truck a few months ago during a race(small pot hole at the end of the track). My uncle also cracked one on his 67(swapped to car bolt pattern and used 15X3.5). When he talked to a Weld rep, they told him that's why they weren't making smaller sizes for truck bolt patterns. My uncle was driving his on the street though, so he knew it was just a matter of time before he broke one with his heavy truck. I don't know if it's that the trucks are too heavy or the wheels were too skinny, or the design or whatever...but they don't hold up to much abuse.
