Tri Power a '77 Chevy 454
I'm currently working on my mutt of a 1969 K10 running a 1977 454. In the carb category, I have the quadrajet it came with that could use a good rebuilding and on the other hand a GM header and holley tri-power carb off of a '69 Corvette 427.
Anyone here have experience running a tri-power on a big block? Thoughts on tri-power vs q-jet? Given the truck is a mutt I could care less about numbers matching, stock, etc. |

If its a daily driver i would run one carb sized to the needs of the engine,If its a more a toy i would run 2 4 barrels on a tunnel ram if you got the room.

I read a article a long time ago that tested 4 barrel vs tripower and the 4 barrel out performed the tripower every time. Tripower is the coolest looking set up IMO but for less headache a 4 barrel is the way to go.

I don't know how much a stock smog dog truck engine would take advantage of that much carb either. I'd much rather have a tiny bit less potential but easy to start and tune than a race engine in a truck.

If I read that right u only have 1 tri-power carb?
If that's the case, u will not like buying the other 2 and the intake. Better off selling it in eBay to a corvette guy and staying with the 4bl. A 67-69 L-68 or L-71 tri-power setup when tuned correctly is a thing of beauty. Problem is guys back in the day didn't know how to tune properly and most setups were removed in favor of a simplified 4 barrel.
