Floor, toe board replacement

I'm considering tackling replacing the front section of the floor and lower section of the toe boards as well as kick panels. My concern is the order these peices should be cut out and replaced but my biggest concern is how to avoid getting the cab out of shape or square thereby affecting the door fit etc. If anyone knows of a particular video or sketch/explanation, or how you did yours, good ideas, mistakes, any info. at all, it would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Floor, toe board replacement

make sure you x brace the cab...side2side,,front2back,,,top2bottom...do it in a manner that you can close the doors to check the fit

Re: Floor, toe board replacement

when replacing sheet metal, only remove 1 piece at a time. This will allow you to position the new piece in the correct place relative to the old existing pieces.

If you cut out everything, floor, inner kick panel, door jamb, and outer cowl panel, you will have nothing to use for reference.

Re: Floor, toe board replacement

Two good points there.

From experience and not all good I'd say square the cab up and get your door gaps right and then brace the tar out of it and then do the panel replacement you need to.

When I chopped my top none of the how to articles in any of the magazines (pre internet) had any instructions on aligning bracing the body shell before you started cutting panels. That created some real issues to deal with.

Re: Floor, toe board replacement

Thanks for all the suggestions. I put the doors back on and things fit pretty nicely. I plan to brace the cab before starting and I guess it's the how to regarding bracing that has caused my reluctance to do this however I have taken a pretty long and thoughtful look as to how to place the braces and I'm pretty confident it'll work( you still need room to be able to work),I'm replacing the lower section of the toe board which comes attached to the floor panel(comes back to the seat riser), these peices come in a left side and right side piece. I'm also replacing the inner cowl panel. I'm waiting for my panels, once I get them and get started I'll post some pics.
