Question cool shifters......

ok i have a chance to trade my 91 for a 72. its a 4 speed truck which i dont like already but anyways it has the big ol bent factory shifter in it. is there a aftermarket shifter handle that i can use that doesnt look so crappy ? a nice turbo 400 w/ b&m will eventually make it into the truck if i can do anything about it.

Re: cool shifters......

you can design your own handle cut it out of steel/you cut the original handle leaving a 3-5inch stub then weld your creation to the stub and your stylin with your custom shifter

Re: cool shifters......

I used the grip out of a helicopter on my 35 Chevy coupe. It still had the wiring attached when I got it so I hooked all of it up. You could roll the windows down and it would pop the door solenoids open, .

Very cool. I did the same thing to my s10 with a piston i took out of 1978 Yamaha Trimoto 175 3 Wheeler i rebuilt. Its amazing how comfertable it is.

Re: cool shifters......

As you are seeing, with truck 4 speeds, the shifter is pretty much integrated into the tranny unlike many car tranny's where it's an add-on attached to the outside of the case. No one I know of makes performance/custom shifters for the truck 4 speed. So You just make your own and weld it to the stub of the original shifter and hide the weld in a shifter boot.

Re: cool shifters......

Well mine was converted from a colomn to a floor. So its an aftermarket bold on so it was rather simple. But I'm sure with a little thought nothing is too hard.

Yup, 3-speeds are a piece of cake to convert.
