what is this?

On my 70 c10 with a 350, auto, & A/C (not working) there is some sort to sending unit on the rear of the passenger cylinder head with blade type things to connect wires. My question is, what is it and what colour are the wires suppose to be?

Is it in the rear as in faceing the firewall, or is it on the side to the back...like pointing to the heater box?
If it is the latter, then it is a temp sending unit and the heads have been swapped laft for right. (or an odd head tossed on there to replace the originl one)
If it is the former, than there is no telling.

It's facing the fire wall. Tommorow I will take it off to get a better look, and most likely remove the value cover to see if the casting number matches the other head. Thanks for the help.
