Hey guess, i recently moved to another location for my freshman year of college hear at the University of Illinios, Champaign/Urbana. I sent in a bunch of forms and was able to move in with my 2 sisters in a house with a garage, whihc is now mine, for the truck. Heres some pics of what the garage is, small, and some work i did today, fun stuff... And i gotta say this board is awesome and has helped me out many many times, and im sure ill be askin many more questions....

Are you sure your bed is the original? I thought '66 was the only bed to have the reverse lights.

Re: Same work, new place...

Nice rig. I took an autobody class my senior year of college and fixed up my '66 Chevy C10 lwb fleet. I see you have a good area to work on your rig.

With regards to reverse lights, they were available as an option up to '65, however, they became standard equipment in '66, according to the manufacturer's/dealer literature and Chevy truck history books, I have.

Good luck with your rig and keep up the good work.

Re: Same work, new place...

Thanks guys, tonight i was finishing hte wiring on the lights and found some issues. First, there was a short in the hood parking lights, so i had to find and fix that, then the turn signal swithch in the column was feelin funky, so i rented/bought a puller, pulled the wheel, and investigated. One of the arms of the U pivot piece was cracked pretty bad and someone had previously tried to epoxy it, apparently to no avail. I put a plate on it with some screws to hold it in place, and then i reinstalled it. It almost works, but when i go to turn on the right turn signal, either both turn signals flah or the passangers side indicator for the turn signal faintly glows. Im assumin this means i have another short somewhere on the turn signal wire, most likely the front one, fun fun....

I guess it's not original. Funny thing is my old 66 stepside sisnt have reverse lights either. But come to find out I had a 67-72 bed on that truck. Can I get a classic truck with some reverse lights?!?

Re: Same work, new place...

Hey Chief, i actually am still having problems with my turn signal switch, the U piece was cracked (pic), so i fixed by using some hose clamp and some screws, and now im trying to fine tune the metal contacts in teh switch so that it works right. I think i have a short in my front right signal cause all that happens is the indicator lights glows when i switch to it. So the lights are a little finicky, but i did get em to light up with the brakes, and man, they are bright, i love em! Today i finnally got my headlights and parking lights working, and those are aftermarket, nad the headlights are a blueish and real bright too. Fun stuff, and thanks for the comments...Also installed the "custom" air inside the cab which the PO had not put in. I dont know why it was ever out really....

Re: Same work, new place...

The pics do it more justice than it desirves. The PO painted it a beatiful blue, i really like it, but they he didnt particularly take very good care of it, and it has many ships and scrathes, but overall it is pretty nice. The drivers door has quite a bit of bondo / filler on teh bottom/side, which isnat all that great, but the bed is very nice. THe rest of the cab is also nice, the rockers and partial floor pans were replaced by the PO and pretty much all the body work is done, whcih is good for me since i have really no experience with body work. David, the clear led tails so light up red, even though the LED lens is clear. They look awesome to me...lol

Re: Same work, new place...

Did you use an electronic flasher instead of the original thermal flasher ? That was the only way to make my LED tails work even though I kept the 1157 bulbs up front. All I would get was the solid green signal indicator on the dash that means a bulb is burned out.

Nice truck !!

Re: Same work, new place...

Actually, i left the thermal one, and it works, i really am not sure why, all other people had the same problem as you. I know it is not the original flasher (clearly) but i know that it is a thermal type, maybe it is new enough that it can work, not too sure, i think i might end up buying an electronic eventually once i work out all the kinks anyway, for longevity...

Thanks guys...

Re: Same work, new place...

So today/tonight i did a bunch more stuff, figureed out the turn signal issue, fixed it up, tore down the heater assembly to clean it out and re gasket it (go rtv!), put some new insulating hood pads in to stop the vibrations, put door panels on with inulators, put in original radio although it doenst fit right and i didnt hook it up yet, realigned door catches so they actually close all the way, installed tailgate and chains, and that was about it, and right now its a little chilly, about 40 outside, and i started to get a num so, i came in, only to realize it was 12:40 am and i probably should have anyhow. Gotta love workin on the truck all day!! pics tomorrow....

Re: Same work, new place...

Finally, some bed wood, not what i wanted, but far cheaper than than a bed wood kit, plywood! 3/4 inch subflooring to be exact, about 40 dollars for 2 sheets, plus some money for marine varnish and undercoating and some bolts, it was about 80 dollars. Not all the way installed yet, waiting for varnish to dry, but ill finish it up tomorrow hopefully. I first just cut 2 rectangles, with the help of my nephew, then put em in and traced the fenders, drilled the holes, then took em out and cut the fender holes, then undercoated one side, 2 coats, then varnished the top at 11 pm. Also undercoated the underside of my fenders, hopefully that much undercoating will prevent any fun stuff from happening under there. My garage is gonna smell reeeaaalll bad tomorrow....pics are always fun....night
