Decisions, Decisions .. please help

I have a 96 model S10 as my daily driver (which I rarely drive) My wife and I work at the same place, ride together, etc. We could get by with one car, no doubt. I live about 40-45 min away from my Dad's place where my truck is. About the only time I ever drive the S10 is going to Dad's to work on my 68.

I love old C10s. I am considering selling my S10, then buying a $3500-4k C10 and just getting it dependable, good solid 327 / auto, nothing wild. 3:08s for decent mileage. Drop it, some 338's or Coys .. etc.

My S10 is the cleanest one I have ever seen. 74k original miles, TT2's, all Belltech stuff, Billet pinion and carrier bearing alignment kit, SSBC brakes, Bilstien shocks. It rides and drives like a new one. Brand new NT555's on the front. Clean and straight, never hit. 4.3L 5Spd. the interior is clean, it has one small place on the driver's seat where the foam is wearing a little thin. I am afraid the S10 is going to be worth more 'to me' than I can probably get for it. I'd be in the $6500 range on it.

Should I just hang on to it or sell build a daily C10? Crappy cell pic below.

Wont hurt my feelings, .. just asking for opinions. The S10 will be better on gas, but not have the C10 feel if you know what I mean. V8 sound, dropped, etc. Help me out

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

I sold my Nissan Titan which was my "daily driver" I spend most of non rainy weather on the bike, so i have that transportation. I picked up the 72 and now drive it daily......

Yes I miss some of the creature comforts of my Titan. However, I dont regret picking up the 72 and I really dont regret getting rid of a $400 a month payment!!!!

Sell the S10. Pick you up a already daily driver ready C10 and run with it! You will miss the S10 periodically like I do my Titan. But the thrill you have driving a C10 daily cant be beat......

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

I've been rolling over a similar dilemma. I’ve got a crapped out 93 Sonoma as my DD as I drive 64 mile round trip. Wife works nearby, been considering sacrificing the Sonoma and my 75 Malibu to get the 67-72 truck I want, carpooling and sitting at work the extra 30min . I’ve been in withdrawal since I had to sell my 71, 2 years ago. I’m with big_al_71, get what you want and be happy.

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

I have an 01 S10 that I'm considering doing the same exact thing with...selling it for a DD 67-72...so I think you should go for it! There's downfalls to it of course, but in my situation every time something goes wrong I dump more money into the S10 and it still depreciates...at least with a C10, the more money I dump into it, the more it will be worth...

I'd try to sell it for what you want and if it doesn't no loss...if it does...find that 67-72 shop truck and have fun

Sell it. Having a older daily driver is wayy cool! If you get tired of it...buy another S10...at least then..you can say.."been there..done that" !
instead..."I should have"....

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

Do you guys think about $6k maybe $6500 would put me into a running dependable 71+ SWB ? I'm thinking I'll go for either a 68 that's been converted to discs, or 71+ they're just easier to do a static 4/6 drop.

I'd like to have a relatively stock 327-350 or so, maybe 700R4, 3:23 gears. What kind of gas mileage you think I would get? My S10 gets about 24-25. Would it get 20 you think? .. if I kept my foot out of it ?

I say sell the s10. I drive my 71 c10 almost everyday and my z71 just sits in the driveway most of the time, there's nothing that beats driving a 67-72 gm pickup IMO

I had a 1980 z28 with a rebuilt 350 with a mild cam, 600cfm quadrajet, and 700R4 with 373 gears. It ran great and I could average 16-18 w/out the a/c on and putting around town. On the highway and having fun it was just over 12mpg

The 323's would obviously help with the mpg's especially on any highway runs...

Running and nice for 6-6.5K, easily yes, but the dependable part is questionable.

Regarding OD (700r4) in a daily driver. Lots of folks on this forum have put a 700r4 in front of a 3.08 rear and saw their mileage DECREASE.

From what I've read here it seems a 2wd really likes 3.73 rear end gears and 700r4 or 3.08 and non-OD.

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

I'd deff sell if you don't drive much and want an old truck. I actually sold my S10 to buy my '72 Blazer and it was my daily driver. I didn't mind the increase in gas $$$ cause I loved the Blazer so much. You're asking price, you wont get for a '94-97 S10. I've been into S10s for a long time, bought, sold, modified etc everything to every S10/Blazer. They don't hold their value no matter what lol

You can try selling for $6gs but expect closer to $4gs as there are millions of them out there just like yours for sale.

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

I have a 6500 offer on the table right now. This is not 'just an S10' it is a 74k mile 96 S10 and I personally have never seen another one this nice. 2003 down, I'd challenge you to find a nicer one around this area.

I asked for your opinion and I have taken it as that.. Your opinion. I will respectfully have to disagree with you though. I'll burn it to the ground before I sell this one for 4k.

Things might be different where you are, but low mile S10s are not a dime a dozen around here.

But, thanks for your input.

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

Yeah, I didn't look at where you were located but I could see it going for that price over there. Along the west coast S10s are a dime a dozen so prices are very low lol

Like most things, prices over here seem to be lower depending on the vehicle of course. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...838548966.html No pics but you get the idea, this isn't an uncommon price around here and most advertised around $6-8gs will take half as they don't sell otherwise lol http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...836256826.html that's a pretty clean S10 actually for a decent price too. http://memphis.craigslist.org/cto/2840556568.html That's the kind of stuff you can get cheap and in great shape too.

If you get your $6000 or so, there are tons of restored SWB, even HiPo ones sitting around here trying to sell for $6-10gs with no rust. Make the drive over

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

If you dont drive it that much you could go the C-10 route.

Just figure out if you can get something as dependable & that you will be happy driving with the money you can get out of the S10.

BUT...It is always nice to know that you have a nice turn key daily available too.

Re: Decisions, Decisions .. please help

Even a good straight 6 / 3spd would work for me Just a putt around truck.

$2500 truck, $4000 billet wheels .. you know the deal.

I know where a really nice 71 GMC custom short/fleet is I can buy for ~$4200. All original metal, hardly any rust. I has recently been media blasted (wish I could have caught it before hand) but it has a really solid 350/3spd on the tree in it and sounds awesome. I has the wood trim on the sides, etc. Originally dark green, green interior.

Right now it's in the mint green color Epoxy primer (..sigh) but I would have loved to get it with original paint. Truck Rallys, good solid truck. Mechanically I dont think it would need much.

Drop it, some wheels and tires Hot Rod Flatz / Faux-tina and drive it.
