Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
Sold
This was previously posted here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=493449 but I reposted with the proper South Dakota Prefix. I'm finished with my Cummins swap, so the old motor has to go. It is a 73 GMC 478DH Toro Flow diesel V6, pretty rare motor. I also put on a gear reduction starter that was machined to fit the block with a custom adapter (spent $500) and it cranks over like clock work. This engine came out of a 73 2.5 Ton dump truck and placed in my 68 back in the late 70s. It runs great and I have a video of it idling while it was in my 68 K20 Suburban. Included is the transmission which is a 5 speed non synchro truck transmission. It uses a hydraulic master and slave, which I will include. From the information I have GM truck transmissions (large centerbore) will fit to the bellhousing on this motor so you can use a synchro trans if wanted. Also included are all mounts from the engine to the frame and accessories on the engine. The AC compressor is removed, but the power steering pump and alternator are both in their brackets and are included. A mechanical drive diesel tach will complete the package. This motor is in Sioux Falls. Call me at Edit: (Seven 0 One) 541-7081 $750 for everything, not willing to separate but can negotiate on price and pick-up/delivery. Final picture is an idle video.

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
I know someone wants to sound like a freight train running down the highway. If I can't sell it I'll just have to buy another truck to put it in!

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
that is a sweet rig. what kind of motor mounts are required? what were you getting for mileage? more or less than the cummins?

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
Motor mounts: It uses a single mount in the center of the front of the motor along with two mounts at the bellhousing. I have the crossmembers/ mounts for both of these.
Mileage: Guessing 15-16 but I never truly tracked the mileage, I just topped off when needed. Definitely less than the Cummins, I've been seeing 18-20 with varying town and highway and no trailer.

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
holy smokes! you still have it?
what kind of mods did it take to the 68 burb to install it? an old GMC suburban/carryall may be my next project. i wouldnt mind buying the right motor a few years ahead of the rest.

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
There were a few plates to bolt the toroflow crossmember to the stock frame and the transmission mounts slid in the frame and crudely bolted on. Unfortunately, the previous owner welded the front plates to my frame so I can't include those, basically a piece of 1/4" x 6" strap bent in a 90* to support the crossmember. The engine isn't any wider than a regular small block but some work would be needed to mount the engine crossmember.
I can get some pictures of the mounts this weekend as I'm heading down to where the motor is stored.

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
That's pretty awesome. I've always wanted a diesel pickup, seeing as how I'm a truck driver. I'd definatly be interested if it was cheaper.
Oh well.

Still for sale and in need of movement from Sioux Falls to Fargo, so I can negotiate a price if someone's serious.

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
TTT, local sale pending (for last month, we'll see what happens).
If someone is serious about picking it up, I can probably get the price down to where it'll make it happen.

Bump, $750 until 8th of November, then it's being parted out and the block scrapped.

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
I still have most of the parts, I've got it stripped down to a short block. I'll drop the pan and crank in the next few days/week. Once I get it pulled and weighed I can figure out a shipping cost for you, but I am assuming at least 100lbs. I can do $150 plus shipping. Anything else you're looking for?

Re: Toro Flow Diesel Engine & Trans
1969_CM2590D / Vintage Windmills: I still have the tach drive and tachometer itself. The tachometer cable is a standard speedometer cable. My burb was running an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and the rest standard 68 K20 instrumentation, so I only have a tach specialized to the Toroflow.
J farm: I am willing to ship parts, I can even build a pallet for them, but shipping wouldn't be cheap due to the sheer weight of parts. I'll give you a call when I get time tomorrow evening (01/15) Also, for clarity I do have to bring another small load of parts from Sioux Falls to Fargo. It's only the intake and exhaust manifolds and some small parts, but if there is a serious buyer for those parts I can take a weekend trip down there and retrieve them to ensure everything is together.

She's officially sold and I just finished crating it up for a trip back to California. I'm glad it's staying together and nothing is hitting the scrap yard.
