steering frame fix?

Ok I have a 2wd truck, but the frame around steering box is messing up bad.. already had a hole in it, and is starting to crack more. The hole had a temp fix, but I dont think it will last much longer. I have thought about cutting some thick pieces of metal and sandwiching the frame as well as having it welded up eventually. I would also drill holes at the end of the cracks to hopefully stop them.. I have also thought about the ORD frame fix, but am unsure if it would fit 2wd frame, not sure on what kind of difference there is between 2wd and 4wd frames. any ideas and suggestions? thanks.
