GMC Mustache Bolt Question

Putting the mustache back on after a 2 year rebuild. Cannot remember if there should be a rubber gasket between the body and the mustache? Thanks for helping, should have taken photos.

Re: GMC Mustache Bolt Question

My 55.2 truck did not come with gaskets on any of the GMC specific trim pieces & I have never seen gaskets on any other GMC trucks at shows that I have attended. That being said, I welcome other owners to share their input on this question.

Re: GMC Mustache Bolt Question

I have disassembled a few over the years. I've never seen a gasket in that location.

Re: GMC Mustache Bolt Question

Well thanks for the input. Better to ask than scratch the heck out of the new paint. Thanks all.

Re: GMC Mustache Bolt Question

Blue painter’s tape is your friend, tape off the area then install the trim loosely remove the tape as you tighten the trim .

Re: GMC Mustache Bolt Question

my 57 didnt have any gaskets between the body and the grille surround parts. that said, you could fab some if you wanna save the paint. try a plumbing supply place, they use sheet rubber for gaskets on large pipe flanges. toolbox drawer liner may also work.

Re: GMC Mustache Bolt Question

maybe the trim could be spaced away from the body by a fraction or maybe some 3m rock guard tape could be put on the area just slightly bigger than the contact area.
