Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

Least I feel that way tonight. Trying to work on the 70 putting engine/tranny together and get it all hooked u in the frame. I was a good boy during disassembly and bagged and labeled everything. Got the pictures and all, but...................... I have 2 and 1/2 ish trucks bagged up here. Shoot, I feel like I am in baggie Hell!

Where the heck are my bolts?

I know if I go out and buy them, the bag will crawl over to where I need it. I wonder if it will crawl out with just the threat of buying, that way I'll save money?

It's been one of those days

Oh well, step back nd get some rest for the Taxi service in the morning. Maybe they will crawl out of the pile by then

Thanks for listening.

I still am hating baggies at this moment!!

Bill- if you start to hyper ventilate, use the baggie to breathe in and out of to calm yourself down. Sounds like you need to walk away from it and it will come back to you where you left the bolts!

Re: Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

At least it's organized chaos I always grab the closest folgers can and start throwing fasteners in it. One of these days I'm going to use the same bolts I took out instead of putting new ones in. Fortunately for me I have a nut and bolt bin and I know what most of the special fasteners look like so I can pick em out of the pile.

I have always found that the quickest way to find something is to go out and buy a replacement - that way it always turns up

Glad to help!

you have to make sure to lose the receipt too so that when you do find em you cant return what you just bought.

Re: Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

When I loose something in order for me to find it I usually have to pitch a wall eyed fit. Utter numerous words I can't repeat here. Then throw a few things and beat them on the floor a little bit. Look some more, still can't find it, get mad and stomp off to the house.

Then when I come back it will just magically appear right out of thin air, in plain site where any idiot could have seen it before getting so mad about it. Guess I'm glad I'm not an idiot.

Don't ask me how many "spares" I have. Sounds like us truck guys are alike in many ways. Who here does NOT have a spare bolt bin? Mine is exceptionally large.

Hey Bill, just so happens I wound up with some extra bolts and stuff since I saw you last. J/K, but I feel your pain, luckily I have some wrecks to rob bolts and stuff off of around here.

Re: Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

Go buy another parts truck. Then, whatever bolt you need, just remove it from the same location on the parts truck. It takes up a little more room than a bolt bin or an organized box of bolts in baggies, but you'll know its exactly the right bolt each time.

Re: Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

I don't know about anyone else but I had a big 5 gallon bucket of bolts that I threw everything in. That way I didn't loose it. One day I seperated all those bolts nut and screws and I found everything from amunition to marking pens. So much for my system. I still can't find the right bolt even though they are in a big tray with about 10 different slots. So every time I see a yard sale I buy more bolts.

Re: Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

Im with you. I have a 2 car garage with 3 trucks torn apart in verious stages with things hanging from the ceiling and crammed in corners and so on and so forth. I did how ever get my plans approved by the city last night to build my 30 by 50 shop so I am going to get organized. I do know what you are saying about the bolt situation. I am afraid I am going to get to my last project and I wont have any bolts.
Good Luck,

Re: Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

Palf, where was your marking pen when you was a baggin stuff?

The easiest way to find the bolts is to start at one end and go to the other of your workspace and organize, declutter, and generally housekeep your workarea.Nahhh that ain't gonna work you're likew me you want to finish what you're working on.

Re: Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

Hey, at least you did everything the proper way like taking pictures of how stuff went and marked everything. I just took everything apart and left it sitting outside to get rained on and overspray from the sandblaster, so I guess I'm more of an idiot. So now I have to figure out how everything goes back together.

Re: Note to Self...You are an Idiot!

Having 2 trucks to build 1 worked like a charm for me. I also did the baggie thing during the tear down, but still had to rob bolts from the other truck a bunch of times. And having a 3rd truck to look at for putting it back together was a real time saver! LOL
