Where can I put a Monster Tach

Well, I have a 5" Autometer monster tach laying around and well... Don't have time or budget to replace all the gauges right now, but I'd really like a tach in the truck. Does anyone have one mounted in your truck? Where did you mount it? Got any pics? Any ideas?

It seems like it might be too tight a fit on the steering column but who knows. Any idea??

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that I really don't want to cut up the dash pad or do too much surgery to the dash to make it work. It's kind of a temporary thing

i mounted my 5" tach on the steering column at about the 3 oclock position it blocks the bottom and middle part of the gas gauge which dont matter and i can still easily see the oil pressure

Not on my '69, but on my '65, I mounted it on the upper corner of the windshield. I removed the visor and used the Tach's mount to cover the hole, using the factory visor screw holes. I fished the wires up the pillar. easy to view, but not in the way. If you look close, you can see it.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. Any other ideas? Maybe good spots on the dash (not needing major surgery?

How about above the radio, where the factory speaker grill is. You could run some small bolts through it and wires in the slats. Just another idea...

Thanks!! That sounds like a pretty good spot. Or maybe even make a bracket to mount under the dash pad and have it wrap around the dash pad to get the tach closer to the front of the dash. Hmmm.......

I have the same tach in my 72. I mounted mine exactly where you show yours in your picture. Used a large hose clamp to tighten it to the steering column. The end fits perfectly into the empty center guage opening. I thought about a dash mount but it looked to me like I would have to move it forward so much to clear the windshield that I would end up drilling through the dash pad and I did not want to do that. I am very happy with the way it sits. Good luck.

on top of the steering column is always a good place but that thing would block your gas guage and speedo, I like the dash area but not too much of a fan of drilling holes in the dash pad or top of the dash

Ive got mine on the center of the dash Made a flatbar bracket that bolts in the speaker grille slots and then the tach mounts on it.

Alot easier to glance over and keep an eye on the road than look down at the colum.

Actually the tack does not block any of the other guages. Check it out.

i have some sort of el-cheapo tach mounted above the column too...only problem I had was that at night, it threw light up onto the windshield right where my line of sight was.

after scratching my head for a while, I decided to make a visor for the tach, so I could still read it and it wouldn't throw the glare at night.

I ended up using one of the bottom flaps from a case of Coors Light...used a whole lot of masking tape to attach it to the tach itself...I know it's redneck but hey, it works. and all my passengers comment on my "bling"! (mirror like finish on cardboard, lol). wish i had a pic of it to show...

OR you can just go buy a switch for 99 cents and put it into the line from the headlight switch to the tach.
Then turn it off when you're cruising and flick it on when your waiting to launch at the light and need to see it
Just my cheap solution to the problem. I know its no beer case, but it works

Nope, I never hit my head or any other body part on the visor mounted tach (go back a few posts to see pic). Was easy to see, plus it sorta makes the little HONDuuuu kids wonder what you really got under the hood when they see some Monster tach sitting there.
