dumb radio?
ok heres my problem. 86 chevy 3/4 ton.2wd with 3" body lift.When I bought the truck radio had alot of static.So I changed the antenna,nothing changed,swapped out speakers,still static.Pulled the sony out of my vw bug that was working great.Put it in the truck STATIC!Tried 3 diffrent antennas ,still static.The wiring on this truck is hacked,so I ran a new power wire straight to the battery and a ground wire to the bottom of the dash,same thing.Found the ground stap from body to engine off made a new from firewall to engine and 1 from body to the frame.Same problem.ANY IDEAS???Thanks

Blown: I kept getting static in my truck until I kicked my old lady to the curb and - Voila! - no more static. But back to your problem... I had to install an inline filter on the power side of the radio to cure the static problem in my truck. Believe I got it at Radio Shack, but any car stereo installation shop should carry them. Otherwise, it sounds as if you did your homework on your truck's wiring situation. Good luck.

Thanks man!!! going to radio shack tomorrow. I would never dream of kicking my wife to the curb ,she knows I'm a sound sleeper and where the guns are. lol. thanks again.

check your body to frame grounds, theres one on the body under the drivers rocker panel towards the rear of the cab and check for one from the engine to the cab

If it's a "whine" that changes with RPM, it's comming from the alternator and a filter will fix it, but be forewarned, the alt has a problem. If it's a steady "pop,pop,pop" type noise it is from the secondary Ign circut, EG, cap, rotor, wires or cracked plug insulators. jim

Grinch, I installed new ground straps 1 from the body to the frame,and 1 from the body to the engine block.It's not an rpm noise its plain old static. Rpm doent change it. I will check on the rf filter.The guy at radio shack tried to sell me a ground loop isolator,but it didnt look like it wouls hook up with out cutting it,so Im still researching.THANKS GUYS!!!
