Donor Truck Question

I'm picking up a 67 c10 with a 70 nose. It has no engine or transmission.
I also have found a 72 C20 Longhorn that is rusted almost to the frame. It however, has a 350 4 barrel engine and 4 speed. My question(s), does this truck come with a 4 bolt main block?
I got the block number and its so generic. 3970010-69 to 79, 2 or 4 bolt mains, 185-370 horsepower. These engines were installed in cars, truck and vettes. So as you can see, it could be almost anything. Anyone know a little more about the engines that came in the Longhorns?

Does anyone know which 4 speed transmission(s) came in the Longhorn? I Won't be using it, but maybe could be sold for a small profit!!!

Final question. The Longhorn has power brakes, could this unit be swapped into the 67? I called Autozone and they have 2 differnet part numbers for the different trucks.

The engine should be a 4 bolt main block. If you can post the the suffix code off of the front engine pad, we can get more specific information on the engine. Most of the 010 blocks were four bolt block engines, but not everyone.

I believe that the transmission is a SM 465 in your 72.

The power booster from the C-20 can be used in your C-10 truck. The C-20's had boosters with dual diaphrams so it will give you more assist, (C-10's had single diaphram boosters). The C-20 master cylinder is plumbed backwards from your C-10, (the front reservoir goes to the rear brakes on the C-20).

I won't get back to the 72 until next week. I'll check the codes off the front engine pad then.

What do you think the value would be on the transmission?
If sold locally or auctioned on eBay?

I am currently building a 383. The block I sent to the machine shop is a 3970010 that came out of a 1971 Monte Carlo. The block I took out of the truck is also a 3970010. The Monte block is a 2-bolt. The truck block, not original to the truck, is a 4-bolt.
For my application a 2 or 4 bolt block just doesn't matter. The only time you need the stronger 4-bolt setup is if your engine spends a lot of its life over 5000 or 6000 rpms. And if that is the case you should consider taking a 2-bolt and having it machined for the splayed 4-bolt caps.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that don't get too hung up on the 4 or 2-bolt thing unless you are building a race engine.

I asked the owner to get the codes for me today. There are no VIN numbers, so I'm wondering if this isn't a replacement motor. It reads K09 26TJC. The research that I've found states this is a 1973 motor with 160 horsepower. Does anyone know if this correct? Since there are no VIN numbers included, I've read that this engine was not installed on a chassis from the factory, so does this mean it's a replacement engine? I don't know, it gets more confusing the more I dig into the history of this truck.

I will make an effort to get to the truck tomorrow to get intake manifold and head numbers.

I did also find out today that this truck is titled as a 72 with 10,000 lbs Gross Vehicle Weight. The VIN nunmber has a G as an added first letter. The VIN is:
GCE242Bxxxxxx

He also told me that the truck has a dump bed too. He said it has 2 cylinders to jack up the bed.


Help a guy out, tell me this is a 350 4 bolt main with high flowing heads and the engine produces 375 horsepower!!!

You cant always go by the casting number It can be a 4bolt and more than likely will But i have seen two bolt 3970010 and four bolt 3970014

Yes it is a 73 block made in Canada Sept 26 1973 160 hp. The canadian blocks a lot of times are a little lower in compression. Most likely a 4 bolt truck
engine! Still better than a lot of newer one but not original has been swapped.
