Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

It's a 1970 Chevy C/10 swb. I purchased it from the original owner's son (80 years old himself). He said he had gotten it from his dad back in 1981. It seems to have lead a fairly easy life. Although, I'm told there was a minor incident with a cow 15-20 years ago, requiring the replacement of the hood and passenger side fender. So, he said since the new panels needed painting, he decided to have the entire truck painted (since he never liked the white roof anyway ." Also, he told me that about the time the odometer rolled over they put another engine in it (a 307 ). I'm told that it's the original seat but it has been recovered (obviously). The truck runs and drives, shifts smoothly, pulls to the right when braking and needs a muffler.

I'm not totally sure what direction I'm going to go with this but the original plans were to keep it as factory looking as possible (it took me a little while to find one that hadn't been modified), lower the stance and make it reliable and roadworthy. Also, add pwr steering, pwr brakes, A/C and possibly swap the drive train for a 350/350 combo. But since I'm no mechanic, we'll see how it goes.

So, before I get the "This Thread Is Worthless..." . Here are some pics.

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

Well, guys I'd like to add pwr steering and update the brakes. I found a nice "how to" thread on hear for the pwr steering and it seems like most of the stuff can be bought new but I need to locate a set of pulleys and brackets. I was talking to my neighbor about it and he said that if I plan to put AC on it in the future (which I do) that I should get the pulley that will allow for the addition of that when it's time. I found the parts in a "for sale" thread on here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=518070 but they had already been sold. So if anyone knows of a set for sale that would be great.

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

The list is kinda long now to decide what's first. If I run across a nice sport bumper then the swapping out of that "sweet" cowboy bumper will be first.

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

I am watching for a bumper, brackets and pullys for you. Did you decide on some 6 lug rallys for now? Or are you going with steelies?

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

Yeah. I was trying to come up with a name but is seems everthing I thought of was taken. Goldilocks, Old Gold, Fools Gold, Gold Digger. So I just put O.G. Old Gold, Original Gangsta. Whatever. I even thought Goldfish. I'm always up for a name change. I just figured I'd better get a thread up with or without a name that I like.

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

None of my bidness, but I'd run on down to the pick a part and get the whole front drive off a 98-99 silverado. Serp belt, ac, ps pump, all for under 2 bills, and the later ac comp is supposed to be the best of the lot. Then I'd go find someone parting a 81-87 chevy truck and cut the frame at the firewall with a sawzall and give 100-150 for it, and get the brake booster and all the lines to the front crossmember. Then I'd invite all the guys over and have a weekend party! Of course I'd also order the parts for the slam-ola at the same time. Great find, even if you do nothing with it! You could just give it the scrubbin it needs and drive the stew outta it and it'd still be cool! Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
