283 Mechanic needed

Need help, I have a 283 that I rebuilt and I'm having a problem it runs fine till I get on the highway at high rpms it has a little miss to it.I've change carb,dist,plugs,wires,fuel filter,rotor,even put that pertronix kit on.Everything is new or rebuilt,the only thing I did different is put a fuel filter before the fuel pump could that be a problem at high rpms?Thanks

at high rpm's the points could be floating which would cause your missing. what kind of rpm are you talking about?

It was doing it when I had points, now I put that electronic conversion thinking that would solve the problem but it continues.

Sorry Don't have a tach but I would have to guess about 2500 ,I have a three speed manual with 3:07 doing about 55 it starts, an also if I hold in second an get on it it will miss. ???

your idea of lack of fuel may be correct. try eliminating the fuel filter before the pump you added and try it. it's by far the cheapest thing you can do. if it works then just stick with the one filter that the truck came with and just change it more often.

See how much your vacuum advance is advancing. Some aftermarket vacuum cans have way too much advance in them, which can cause missing at steady speeds.

Sounds like that screen that fits over the gasline in the tank maybe dirty or weak fuel pump. Why not an HEI distributor on that small block?

Well I was trying to keep it mostly original, plus I had purchased a new distribitor years ago, so I figured I could make out with it.I tooked the screen off inside the tank and put a filter under the truck where that hose comes out. Any other advice appreciated
