Show your box!

Boxed frames that is...

I am building a tow hauler, and want to be able to tow and haul 10000lbs.

I am doing a frame off restoration. Putting on 2" Tuff Country spring lift.

I'd sure like to box the frame, but would like to see what some people have done here.

Thanks guys.

Re: Show your box!

This wont help much but its simple warnings...

Boxed frames tend to hold moisture and we all know how well moisture and steel get along... also lift springs are going to opposite direction for towing... what are you doing for brakes?

10,000 lbs is in 1 ton range,Springs and frame are not the only considerations for towing capacity. Brakes should play a major part.Tire capacity is another.

Re: Show your box!

Major issues with boxed frames that rust. My 85 easily tows 5 tons stock. Reinforcement would be fine. hardware is also harder to install/remove. lift springs take away from towing capacity. For a super strong Bumper that is rated at 6 tons Google Hercules bumpers in Pelham Georgia if they are still around. also for gooseneck/fifth wheel i found that you will never go wrong with a rail system reinforced by a 3/4 inch plate welded across the top of the frame right above axles.
