01 Tahoe tune up?'s

I am getting ready to do a tune up on my 01 Tahoe with a 5.3ls. It has 114,000 miles and was going to do plugs and wires. How often are you supposed to change out the coil packs? Is there anything else that can be done? I am used to the gen 1 sbc's.
Thanks!

I personally wouldn't worry about the coil packs unless you have an issue with them. I would say plugs, wires, serp belt, and a/c belt. That's what I did on mine when I first bought it. I've got 250k on mine and replace things as soon as they start to show issues. Pretty sure I'm on the original ones.

I'd say you've got some time, but would plan to do the fuel pump/filter at some point. They like to go out at the most inopportune time. I got fortunate on mine in the fact I was able to get it home. Most I know goes out to their truck in a parking lot and it won't fire up.

Re: 01 Tahoe tune up?'s

Never. You only replace one when it dies. It either works or it doesn't (well, it can have intermittent spark, but it will still throw a code). You'll know when one dies because it throws a code and it will run funny. My 00 has all the original coil packs with 160K on it. I've never heard of anyone have more than one die at once. And if one does die, you only need to replace that individual pack.

Agree with the above... the "average" fuel pump seems to last between 120-140K. Mine lasted until 126K. I got lucky, mine gave me a warning, the check ball started going so the truck was "starting hard." Fuel pressure test showed the pressure was dropping to zero when it was shut off (check ball supposed to hold pressure so truck starts as soon as you turn key.)

In addition to the belt I'll throw in change the tensioners and idler pulley as well. OEM ones aren't expensive (made in Canada). Mine started squealing around 100K.

I already did the fuel pump, filter and i put on new stainless brake lines, stainless fuel lines, and new tranny lines. It was a pain as to do all the lines you basically have to remove everything from underneath the truck.
