New guy with some questions about my 68 C10

Hello everybody! What a great site! Looks like this is the place for all the info I need. I just recently purchased a 68 C10 Long bed for $1,200! It's a beater but only rust is the rockers and the rear cab corners. I will post some pics soon. I have a couple of questions....

1. What are the stock wheel size for this year and model? And can I use
different size wheels as long as they are 6 lug?

2. The gas tank...right behind the seat. Do most of you remove that and
put one under the truck? Or is it okay back there?

3. Brakes....I have drums all the way around...should I get disks...or are
the drums ok?

Welcome to the forum sixD8. You can get by with a good rebuild on your drum brakes and they will do just fine. It's pretty simple to switch to disc brakes, so that is a popular conversion. If this is of interest, take a look in our Suspension Forum Quick FAQ for many of the options-LINK

to the board. To add to N2TRUX post, all of my trucks have the tank in the stock location. I'm not saying rear mounted tanks are a bad thing, there not. A lot of people are using them. The filler neck location can be a problem but there are a few different solutions. Just read up on them before jumping into the change. As far as the brakes I have both and if done correctly either one will stop you as designed to do. I can't help you on the wheels but someone will.

Lots of folks are running the 69-72 Blazer tanks behind the rear axle. It's a pretty straightforward setup. I haven't done mine yet, but am planning on it.
The disc swap in front is super easy, did it and I love it. I've done the rear also, but that was a bit more involved.

i know that the new chevy 6 lugs are the same bolt pattern 6x 5.5 but the center hole is to small i tried to swap rims with my 04 z71 and the center hole wont fit over the hubs most after market rims are large enough i think the hole is 3.5 inchs and new chevys are 3 inchs

stock brakes have always done me well on my 68.

and there should be no problem running the gas tank in the stock location

I have My fuel tank in the stock location. Some say they can leak and smell like fuel, but I replaced my sending unit o-ring and it is fine now. My only complaint is the lack of room to put stuff behind the seat. But, I don't drive my 71 that much so I can live with it.
