Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

FINALLY!,

I got the 454 swap completed to the point of Cam breakin. It's alive!!!

Found a small oil leak at the sending unit rite above the header. About 5 min into breakin, found a small fire when oil dropped on header (no damage)... kinda cool to see but nonetheless, turned off the motor until time permits tomorrow to fix the leak.

Motor sounds AWESOME... will post video when I get the bugs worked out.

Kenny

I didn't get a hole lot done but I spent a hole lot of money.

The engine looks great. Good job making it look clean.

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

May family went to Austin this weekend for a Christian Youth Retreat, so I was on my own. I managed to get several small jobs done around the house that have needed my attention.

I had planned to get some work done on my 77, but other jobs got in the way. Maybe next week...

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

I picked up my 'new' swap engine for my 68.... a 6.0 w/a 4l80e.

Spent today kind of trying to figure out where to start (so many extra parts & wires). Didn't progress beyond off-loading it from the bed of the 74 & onto a homemade dolley to shuttle it around. Surfed the net alot looking for the parts for installing (mounts, exhaust, etc).

I'm nervous as heck about all the swap electronics but board member 68 short step assures me I'll be ok. I hope he's right.....

edit: Don't worry Ken, your old motor is still getting a good home.

I installed power disc brakes on the front of my 1966 Malibu SS convertible, got rid of the manual drum set up. Then the weather was so nice I got both washed and detailed with the help from my little monkeys, I was able to get a group photo done,

Drove 1300+ miles with a ZZ4!! Minor problems: thermostat change, fuel pump (blew out during a show off burnout), leaking tranny line, and one GM carb link clip replaced. $294 in fuel!! A/C worked! Looks of amazement by other drivers. How many old pickups do you see driving 70 MPH and passing you?

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

Spent this weekend putting up drapes for my mother-in-law. Took 2 days lol. I hate hanging drapes, lol.

As far as the truck goes, I tried to get it up on jack stands. I knew it wasn't going to have a good result since it's just a dirt floor in the barn. So this week before the holiday I need to cut some lumber to put under the jack stands or something.

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

Well, I finally got tired of listening to my wife complain about the size of trucks I like her, and the kids to ride in, but the burb is ready for major work. So under temporary insanity I bought this. It is a Gm certified 07 Equinox.

Anyone have a horror story about them?

It has the Chinese built 3.4 l, with the Japanese built transmission, and the body built in Canada.

What is it, that is suppose to make this an American car? Is it the Chevy emblem? It was made in Canada too!

I guess the good news is the wife is happy, and I don't have to work on it till it hits 100k

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

Saturday, I started the smoker at 4:00am and cooked a 'Sample' dinner of smoked Tri-Tip,homemade potato salad, homemade baked beans, bbq'd corn on cob,and garlic toast for a double B-Day party. Delivered the dinner, and before I got out of the driveway,I got a call..."YOU ARE HIRED!".
Then went to Barstow and picked up a '74 C20 w/utility bed for $275,then on the way home, I traded it for a '75 K10 shortbed fleet.(was mine not long ago).
Sunday was the 8th anniversary of meeting my wife. went to breakfast.then went to my friends to work on the '74's 292. Right now I am gearing up to take my 4mo old son to the hospital tomorrow. He is still having seizures, even being on 2 anti seizure meds.

Went to Wisconsin Dells Saturday morning for Automotion car show and camping, here are a few pics.......

The bronze/brown one has a big block and traction bars

Other than that, just drank some beers, cooked out, went to a strip club, hung out with close, good friends. Could not ask for more out of a weekend.

Helped my buddy change his distributor from points to HEI on his Scout II. Plopped it in and it worked perfectly on the first shot out. He's got awesome power and response now.

On my end, tried to troubleshoot a leak on my water neck...couldn't get it to stop. ...did some house stuff.

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

Went and picked up a stepside bed I found on CL. Removed my old rusty stepside bed Friday night, and bolted my lights to the frame. Drove 45 minutes to the sellers house Saturday morning, bolted it on in his driveway. Bed is rust free and perfect except for a slightly warped tailgate. My body guy says he can easily get it straight. Of course I also need to replace the wood, no biggie.

Pulled some brackets and painted them. Truck goes into the stereo shop for repairs in a few hours. The kick panels and lower door panels are starting to crack. Understandable considering the abuse they have taken these last few months.

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

started the much needed cleaning process in my shop, there is 20+ years of clutter and junk and the shop is 50 X 35 so you all can imagine that mess. i am content though, i made it about half way to where it needs to be (no walking room, to there may be a floor) so i should have it the rest of the way next weekend and be ready to pull the chassis in to start the mock up.

I didn't get any thing started on mine yet. I'm still in the planin stage. I did check out the steering. Looks like the gear box will have to be replaced. I think making a plan and sticking to it will be the best way to get things going. Keep your fingers crossed, I'm getting a raise to day. Hopefully it'll be enough to really start the project!

I didn't do a darn thing to the truck. I went camping at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival! HooWee! There was waaay too much eating and drinking, and the music (for a bluegrass novice like myself) was awesome!

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

I spent the weekend mocking up all the body pieces I've been collecting over the last few months. Last week I stumbled across a rolling SWB chassis for $100 and purchased it sight unseen. Luckily for me it came complete with ralleys, center caps and trim rings. Also picked up a SWB box at a swap meet for a couple hundred to go along with the frame. No it's time to pull it apart and start the remaining body work. Cab corners, rockers, floor, firewall are all done. Going to be fun. Mike

Re: what did you get done 5/18 edition

My truck was supposed to be done getting painted Friday night...wasn't said they would call on Sat when it was done...no call Sat, no call Sunday....Just got the call this morning. I would have called and asked them what was up...but i didn't want them to rush it and do a crappy job. Anyway I can't pick it up after work because i have to go directly to class after work. So i have to wait until tomorrow....the suspense is killing me....i just want my truck back!

Sun put a new starter in my GF car.
