changing frames

I have a 69 chevy long bed fleet side, am really wanting a swb truck and I have a 84 chevy swb frame. has anyone made this swap before? I realize the frame on the 84 has a 2 inch longer wheel base that a 69 swb, but I think moving the rear axle (springs and mounts) 2 inches forward would not be that big of a deal, just cutting off rivets and redrilling holes 2 inches forward. What I am unsure about is the width of the frames under the cab, the 84 is out in the snow and I don't really want to climb under it at this time to measure, but looks as if you could cut of the frame mount for cab mounts on 69 and bolt them to the 84 frame with little problems as long as the frames are very close to the same width under the cab portion of the truck. Any ideas or suggestions....thanks

Re: changing frames

my advise is sell the 84 frame and buy a 67-72 frame, they can be had for cheap if you look around.

X2, If you are willing to do a full frame swap ( I just did mine and it was a ton of work), then you should be willing to A. Modify you LWB into a SWB or B. buy a SWB frame, I picked mine up for 100.00

Re: changing frames

Not to hijack the thread, but would a 67-72 Cab and front clip fit on a mid 90s Chevy frame?

Re: changing frames

I think it would be far easier and faster to just shorten the 69 frame rather than modify the 84 to fit the 69. You could have the 69 done in an afternoon and not have to remove the cab to do it. Cut the frame n weld and shorten the driveshaft or find a shortwheel base shaft. It has been well documented here on these forums.

Re: changing frames

if you are talking 2 wheel drive, then it's nor really a do-able swap. The frame on 67 - 72 is flat, the 73 - 87 is nothing close to flat.
