You guys with early Mustang gas tanks

After reading many threads on rear mount tanks I'm leaning toward the early Mustang tank with in bed fill in my 65 swb Fleetside. I just want to make sure of a couple of things.

1. It fits the swb trucks that are 8" shorter at the back frame?

2. Where does the fill tube end up? It would be nice if it landed in the middle of a piece of wood.

3. What are others using for filler cap set ups? pics?

(lets keep this thread Mustang tanks only)

Re: You guys with early Mustang gas tanks

I mounted one on my 62 short fleet side. The install is not complete yet. There was just enough room to get it in this space. I don't know if the filler will land in the middle of a floor board. (I have a plywood floor)The 62 frame is wider that the 63-66 frames so I had to mount a little different than you would.

www.tanksinc.com sells the tank with a GM sending unit. This seems to be new. 22 gal capacity http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...rod/prd502.htm

Re: You guys with early Mustang gas tanks

I didn't modify the frame but I did have to make a wide bracket because of the frame width.

Re: You guys with early Mustang gas tanks

I have the early [64-66] Mustang tank in my 66. I trimmed 1/2" off each side of the top of the frame rail and made some brackets and strips of rubber in between. I also used a Mustang sending unit and when I ordered my gauges I asked for a Ford gauge.
