Headlight retaining ring not completely round.

I finally got my new Wagner halogen headlights into my truck. I did notice that although my retaining rings held the bulbs in without movement, the retaining rings are not quite round.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Headlight retaining ring not completely round.

My only guess is they somehow got deformed when they were off the truck. They're pretty thin and easy to bend, but fit snugly around the headlamp so they should conform to the round shape when installed. You say they hold the lamps in place..... I guess I don't see a problem. If they're bad enough to bother you, junkyards should have lots of them. Or buy new ones, many vendors sell them.

Re: Headlight retaining ring not completely round.

When I removed the rings, I didn't remove or store them separately: I removed the entire headlight bucket, ring, and bulbs as two complete units and stored them that way.

Mine have been pop riveted back together at some point. Perhaps this was done during the 4th rate paint job my father hired done to the trunk in 1990.

I guess I need new ones. They do work, but they are not round.
