Measurements: Back of cab to axle centerline
Trying to determine how long I should make my frame.
I really want to go with a long bed on my dually project, but the C40/C50 frame is giving me fits and starts. Can someone measure from the back of their cab to the axle centerline, please? Longhorn Long Bed Short Bed. I have a measurement of 63" which leaves me scratching my head. I can flip the springs, which would give me 3" offset. Re: Measurements: Back of cab to axle centerline
The standard measurements used by truck body companies is the Cab to Axle dimension (CA).A 3/4t(127"WB) is a 56" CA(8' body),short 1t(133"WB) cab`n`chassis is 60" CA(9' body/10' flatbed),and the long 1t(157"WB) cab`n`chassis is 84" CA(11' body/12' flatbed).The body I refer to is the utility bed/service body.
I know these numbers aren`t taken directly from one of these trucks. But,that was the standard until trucks became anything but standard many years later.

Re: Measurements: Back of cab to axle centerline
We don't build many 60" CA's at work. A 19K or heavier chassis looks pretty short with a utility body on them- like a shortbox pickup. 84" CA's look more proportionally correct to me.
Tim- is your math off somewhere? If 133 is 60, woudn't 127 be 54?

Re: Measurements: Back of cab to axle centerline
It would be considered a 60" CA. Some manufacturers figure in 3" body clearance automatically. Some let you specify down to a fraction exactly what you want when ordering. Even today, GM & Ford offer only basic configurations. We have to work around their dimensions all the time.

Re: Measurements: Back of cab to axle centerline
Thanks guys. This makes more sense to me now.
I can flip my springs and fit a 8' bed on it. |

Re: Measurements: Back of cab to axle centerline
Here's my '72 8 foot bed actual measurements.
Also, FYI... might make it easier to figure what to cut out if needed... from the center of the rear spring "forward" eye to the center of the rear cab mount vertical bolt measures 30- 1/2".

Re: Measurements: Back of cab to axle centerline
Thanks. I can flip my springs and get it to fit, with a bit of creativity.
