Timing Question

69 Chevy C20 w 350 Manual HEI Dist, 4 Brrl carb

Seems to be running a bit off. I checked the timing and it is showing 4 degrees ATDC. The engine is stock with the exception of the carb and distributor.

What should my timing be at idle?

What about the timing advance with higher RPMs?

I saw between 6-12 BTDC on different threads (for automatics). My truck manual defers to the sticker (that no longer exists) on the truck.

Thanks

I would set it at 10-12 degrees BTDC at an idle with the vacuum advance disconnected. If you have a spark knock at this setting retard the timing a couple of degrees.
