No dash cluster lights

I do not have any cluster lights in my dash. I changed out the panel fuse and when I was talking out the bulbs, I noticed one was missing - is this a circuit and if you are missing one bulb, it keeps all the bulbs from working? If not, what else should I check, my dome light and cargo lights work fine.

No they are not like the old Christmas lights, if one bulb does not work the others will. I would check for ground and power to the printed circuit and trace back to find problem.

You should ask a mod to move this to the electrical forum because there are so many causes for the problem. You should also say the year of your truck. Meanwhile check out these threads.

replace the headlight switch. I had a similar problem and that is what solved it. I bought mine at autozone I think it was 7.00

i agree with big_al_71 head light switch would be a good place to start, and check for rusty fuse holders at the fuse box. dash lights have a different fuse for them self's ....

I did find the fuse and the clips were rusty - I switched the fuse but it still did not work. Your thinking it is the headlight switch?

if cleaning the fuse box of rust did not help. i would try a new or known good headlight switch....try turning the lights off and on several times and turning the knob left and right and see if the dash lights even blink a little..some times they will come on...crud in the switch, and will finally come on.....then you know its the switch....

Put a 12 volt jumper on one side of the panel lights switch fuse holder. If the dash lights come on then the problem is between the headlight switch and the fuse panel. If they don't come on then put a volt meter on resistance on the panel lights fuse holder. Red lead to holder and black to ground. with the head light switch off, rotate the knob and watch the meter resistance, it should go up or down.

You might be able to do the same thing with the meter on 12 volts and watch the voltage go from 12 down to 6 or so with the headlight switch on.

If neither of these checks work then pull the dash cluster plug and check the small gray wire for 12 volts with the headlight switch out and the knob rotated to full on. If you get 12 volts then the problem is in the cluster board or the lights are all burnt out. Also check that the headlight switch is grounded and the dash cluster is also well grounded.
