BBC brackets and the water pump...

I am getting ready to put the big block into my truck finally... but I am unsure about a few things that I was hoping someone would have some insight into...

I think that both of these pieces are tied in that, if you use a short water pump, you need the brackets that work with the short water pump, and vice versa... I have seen different types of brackets that are said to be for our years... two types of alternator brackets... seems like thousands of pieces for the ac stuff, and at least a dozen different power steering setups.

Can anyone tell me / show me pics of the correct brackets for a 72 big block engine? I also need to know if our trucks used short or long water pumps... Pics would be very useful for when I am looking for the parts...

Thanks for any help

James

Re: BBC brackets and the water pump...

I believe they used the short water pump with alternator/power steering on the right side and a/c compressor on the left (looking at the motor)....set up should be the same on any Chevy car 68 and older..(w/BB).....Cars changed to long water pump in 69.....Hope this helps....

Re: BBC brackets and the water pump...

To clarify, the accesories are described as sitting behind the wheel, not looking at the engine. That is, a driver's side alternator is on the left side of the engine.

Your truck should indeed have short water pump.

Here's a picture of my 70 big block truck's engine. These are the correct brackets for our trucks.
