3 speed conversion?

I was wondering if anyone might have info or links about converting a 3 speed column shift into an automatic style steering column?I found a bunch of info on converting the 3 speed to a floor shift, but nothing on converting to an automatic.I know it can be done.An old timer who was helping me out with my engine build said there easy to convert and That was a popular conversion back in his day.But he recently died. Thanks, pat

Cool thanks for the link.im using an 80's bigblock 454 and an 80's 700r4,now im worried about the starter/flexplate issue. The engine came out of a truck and the transmission out of a corvette.I have the smaller bolt patern flexplate.

Re: 3 speed conversion?

You can likely find a flexplate or a new starter drive to make the connection.
You'll need a tv cable set up on whatever carb you use.
Check here for that info.

If you don't use a different steering column for an auto tranny then Lokar among others make some nice floor shifters.

454's are externally balanced and need a weighted flex plate. They are rather inexpensive new.The 400 small block is the same flex plate.

No a 400 small block and a 454 big block are both externally balanced. However the flexplates are not interchangeable they are balanced differently.
