47-55.1 Anyone have any idea what this pitman arm is from? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have an AD steering box with this pitman arm on it. I thought it was just a stock one bent, but damn it looks original. The box will bolt onto my frame so if it is a later model, it does bolt onto the frame. But with the box on the frame the pitman arm won't fit, it hits the frame.

What do you think?

Just checked my spare pitman arm and it is straight without that curve which yours shows. Mine is about 10" center to center.

I will measure this, I of course can't use it but it is so odd because it looks like it was made this way. I wonder if it's for a COE or something.

I had my stock 49 Pitman arm bent exactly like that due to having to move the steering box out for an SBC install.

AhhhhhhhhhH! That makes perfect sense! OMG!

Funny story, I was putting a 401 Buick Nailhead in my truck, it was 1979. My brother and I were trying to figure out how far we had to move the steering box out and he says "Why don't we just move the motor back?"

Yep, that solved that little problem.

Good deal, I don't see any steering box clearance issues with that install LOL.

Thanks so much, I honestly didn't think I was going to find out anything like that!

It will be on eBay tonight! LOL I thought I was going to be tossing it in the garbage and I hate to do that! Not so much because I won't make a few dollars, but because I HATE to throw out any old car or truck part when there is someone out there that could use it.

Definitely don't throw it away. It's worth alot to those of us toiling in the budget build recesses of this great hobby LOL.

If/when I ever go the IFS route I'll sell mine too. Meanwhile the steering is fine and no bump steer. Atleast no more than you normally get from a straight axle and skinny tires LOL.
