So when in 1972 did GM start installing single wall tops?

My May 1972 Flint built Blazer has a single wall top (and speaker installed in the dash like a pickup). I suspect 1x wall tops were available in 72 only and were installed in the latter part of the MY but maybe that's not correct.

I'm curious for those who have K5s originally equipped with 1x wall tops, what month your K5 was built, Flint or St Louis built, and does your K5 have the speaker in the dash like a pickup?

We could also uncover who has the last K5 assembled for the 72 MY

Re: So when in 1972 did GM start installing single wall tops?

Here is a link to my previous post on the CC3 single wall top release information dated 01/72, for anyone that missed it.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=230

Since it was a supplemental release, survey of actual installations is an excellent idea. Based on the GM information single wall tops are expected on some mid to late 72MY units and I would be very suspect of earlier 72MY and down units.

Re: So when in 1972 did GM start installing single wall tops?

Tim thanks so much for posting that. Really eager to see some St. Louis K5s w 1x wall tops that show Flint wasn't the only plant where GM was installing them. There certainly is precedent for plant specific variation though.

My 72 is a flint, delivery date of May, single wall top. My last blazer was built in flint as well, single wall top as well, unsure delivery date

Re: So when in 1972 did GM start installing single wall tops?

My '72 blazer was built in St Louis, but had a double wall top. The holes to mount it looked to have been hand drilled, not very well, and the factory cage nuts for the single wall were in place, but filled with seam sealer before paint. Cant imagine they would put those in if they didn't put single walls on some of them? Also, mine doesn't have a speaker in the dash.

Re: So when in 1972 did GM start installing single wall tops?

Thanks for posting! It seems the case that other (most?) 72s were outfitted w bed rails to accomodate either top regardless of which style, which is another interesting detail.

Re: So when in 1972 did GM start installing single wall tops?

1972 Flint Blazer w a 2x top and sequence # 107636 (looks to be original to the truck), unknown speaker location. Early production 72 before switch to 1x wall?

Still no convincing 1x top equipped 1972 K5 from St. Louis.

Re: So when in 1972 did GM start installing single wall tops?

Here's a flint built Jimmy assembled in August 1971 for the 72 MY w a double wall top. From eBay, not my notes on the pics.

Also lacks speaker vent atop the dash indicating an below dash speaker - seems the pattern w 2x wall tops.

Thanks Kieth. Ttt for more data.

Also interesting to note that the above ochre truck (post #18) has a total of four brackets that support the rear of the rear seat - the two I have here only have two brackets: one on either corner. A topic for another post. It's possible the belt boots on a four bracket seat differ from a two bracket seat.
