Thought I'd share my lil rat rod project. Am a little embrassed to post it seeing some of the work you guys do but seeing as you all shared thought it only fair. These are the pics of it when I brought it home. Got it for $1000 off a farm in Elgin Texas. It was running with the original 283/3 on the tree. Drove it for a month before i started tearing apart.

I am currently building a late model lt1 and turbo 400 for it. Then as money allows I want to do tubular upper and lowers in the front and maybe the CPP rear set up when I do the 4"/6" drop on it. For now me and the boy are more interested in doing the local 65 and older drag races/rat rod shows with it then doing a full restro or resto mod.

actually got the motor down in the truck. Moved it back 4" and down by 1". Started it earlier with just some wires ran to the fuel pump & distributor and a hose ran to my Harley's tank. Sounds damn good for a lil small block. Hope to have the new Radiator by this weekend and all the wiring down. Then all I lack is getting a drive shaft cut and some tires before she's at least drivable.

Sorry I dont have pics of the cowl hood being made. A fella a town over welded it up for me as I didnt have a welder at the time. Basically took two hoods and cut the raised section out of the first one, then took the second hood and cut the "flat" peice off the top of the raised section and "fitted" the 2 together with a little added metal for the height. Alot of filler later it was a some what passable cowl hood. I wont likely run it on the truck anymore as it lacks support in the cowl area and vibrates so much the filler vibrates and cracks.

What i did for my cowl hood was to take a piece of 1/2 tube and ran a cut through length wise and slipped it onto the hood under the cowl hood.....then put the fiberglass cowl hood over that...I also ran a brace at the back of the hood and connected it to the pipe and the two exsisting brackets the run front to back in the hood already. That seems to stop the hood flexing so far.

Got everything wired in and all tranny lines and coolant lines sorted out. Fired it up today to make sure the thermo-switch for the electric fan was working and decided to make a lil video. Is recorded on my phone so poor quality but yall can at least get the idea. This is open headers idling at 1100 rpm.

Well I drove the truck for the first time sence dropping the motor in yesterday. Still haven't received my alternator so am running on just a battery. Truck ran real strong till 5,500 or so then started stumbling. At first I thought it was my battery was getting weak and the ignition signal was breaking down as a result. So I pulled it back under the car port and tossed my charger on trickle charge and went to work. Came home this morning itching to test her out but was thought full enough of my neighbors to not fire it up till after 10am. She started fine seemed to have damn nice throttle response so down the road I went. Every thing seemed fine so once I got to a strip of road with no house I stabbed the throttle. All hell broke loose till 5k rpm and she started popping back.... So i slow down... cruise to the next stop sign and turn around. This time I just cruise back towards the house like I would normally cruise and damn thing starts stumbling at 2k rpm. So I get home double check initial timing... about 16 degrees... then pull the throttle back and wow... it jumps so much I cant get an accurate reading. Seems my cheap HEI distributor my brother gave me is jumping advance even at low rpm. Sooo moral of the story... dont waste time or money with cheap ebay distributors!!

That thing sounds GOOD!

Yeah, with ignition parts, you get what you pay for. It's hard to get past the super-low price of that ebay stuff, though. Gotta stretch them bucks wherever you can, because building hot rods isn't cheap.

You're going to have alot of fun with that truck!

Well got every thing wired up, the seats installed, my old rally's painted and tires mounted and balanced, replaced the cheap distributor with an MSD Streetfire and should have the fuel cell mounted and exhaust finished in the morning. If I finish up before the rain gets here I will try to get a few pics and maybe a video/sound clip of it with mufflers. Now the problem is finding a new insurance agent. The one I have now wont touch the truck unless I start a new account getting him another big down payment. I already have 2 accounts with him. One for my DD and one for my bike. Says I can't add a 50 y/o car/truck to either account. Soooo instead of making another down payment like he wants me to I figure I will do some shopping and find one insurance company that will insure all 3. 1 payment is easier to keep track of then 3! Anyway some time this week she should be back on the road... I can't wait for the first

Sorry for the late replies guys. Thanks for the kind words but my lil truck has been put on hold for a bit. Easier for me to post a link to the article then type it out with one hand in bandages and the other swollen to the size off a soccer ball. The black GMC in the pics was my daily driver till this happened.
