72 OEM Posi Carrier

Here is a nice OEM posi carrier from a 72 1/2 ton, 12 bolt rear end. It is a series 3 carrier (had 3.07 gears). It was tested and thoroughly cleaned by a local driveline shop. It was swapped out only because a series 4 carrier was needed for 4.11 gears.

$300 Shipped in the CONUS.

Will it work with my non position rear? Use the same axles?

Re: 72 OEM Posi Carrier

Just an FYI for anyone wanting this, you can run a ring gear spacer with a 3 series posi and use the 4.10 and numerically higher gears.

Yes, this replaces your non-posi carrier and uses the same axles. You are first up, pm sent.

Re: 72 OEM Posi Carrier

Richmond makes ring and pinion gears to work on the 3 Series carrier all the way up to 4.56 gears.
(thicker ring gear)
Likewise they make a 3.73 set that will work on a 4 Series carrier.

I have a set the Richmond 4.10's in my truck with the factory 3 series carrier. They worked out fine.

Lolife99 and others chimed in and added great info so I did not think it was necessary for me to respond.

Re: 72 OEM Posi Carrier

I really don't know much but I read that OEM 3.73 12 bolt rears needed a 4-series. If I knew a 3-series would work I would probably take this carrier for use in my K10.

You are correct.
I was incorrect.
I found this on the net,...

12-Bolt Truck Rear Info:
You have 3.07 gears & a 3-Series Carrier which used OEM 3.40 & numerically lower gears.
4-Series Carriers used OEM 3.73 & numerically higher gears
.

I've read that you could use a wider ring gear if you want to put 3.73's in a 3-series carrier....now I gotta find where I read this
