where to find "soft" 5 inch rear drop springs

I know I can purchase a drop spring from most of the vendors but reading the "how to make it handle" thread the mention of using softer rear springs came up a couple times.
The spring rate info does not seem to be published. Mention of a Chevelle rear spring were made. So what springs should I buy? Do they differ vendor to vendor?

Re: where to find "soft" 5 inch rear drop springs

You might check out some Jeep springs. If I recall thats been a common swap because the Jeep guys are adding lift springs and the stock ones can be found cheap or free.

I have read that they give you plenty of drop, but they are on the soft side. If you use them and they don't work, at least you could get an idea of what spring rate you will need.

Thanks for that I will see if I can check into finding some. They are an easy swap I just was not sure where to look.

Any particular reason for 5" springs? Hotchkis makes 6" springs that are "softer".

Re: where to find "soft" 5 inch rear drop springs

Thanks Matt for the link that looks like that is what I was looking for. I know you get what you pay for but that is a few times the price of a "standard" drop spring. I will need to give this some thought I don't know and can't seem to get the spring rate of these other springs. I don't know how much difference in the rates there are.
I do happen to have a testing lab I can probably get an exact spring rate on any of these. We do leaf spring testing and get that info all the time for those. I can use the same stuff. I may look into that to see what I can find out.

I think 6 inch would work fine I just didn't want to get too low (if that is possible)
Thanks
Dave

Re: where to find "soft" 5 inch rear drop springs

the hotchkins springs are a little stiffer than the conventional drop spring because they are for performance and handling.

the cpp springs just mimic the stock springs and actually have a very smooth ride

Re: where to find "soft" 5 inch rear drop springs

I can tell you from experience that the CPP drop springs are much softer than the ECE drop springs.

Re: where to find "soft" 5 inch rear drop springs

I can tell you from not so much experience the Hotchkis springs are curved all the way to the top and are a nice shade of gray.

I have them in my truck, but have yet to drive it.

Re: where to find "soft" 5 inch rear drop springs

Thanks for the offer John, that is great. I will get back with you then and see. I think I am going to go ahead and order some I found that have the spring rate listed and seems to be in line with what I was looking for. I will try them out and if they don't work maybe the Jeep springs will be the way to go.
