3 OTT with tilt? Did GM make it?

I love the nostalgia of my column shift and rowing thru the gears but man do I hate the position of the wheel. Stupid question is did GM make a 3OTT with tilt wheel... Ever? Any one ever done it?

I've never seen one but when I did a google search I found a 70's van with tilt and manual shift. Costly though.

I don't think that's a tilt. The picture appears to be a tilt, but the description says "non-tilt". The same person has an automatic van tilt for sale. I bet he just uploaded the wrong picture.

I agree. The close up picture shows two shift arms on the bottom, but the full length picture shows only one arm.

Re: 3 OTT with tilt? Did GM make it?

I've never seen one and have been told there weren't any and cannot find any reference in any of the lit I have collected over the years. So I would say no. I did see a floor shift tilt on CL a while back but could never get hold of the guy to buy it. At the price he was asking, I could have rebuilt it and still had it for a steal. One of those and a floor shift would do it but like me, the tot works as a theft deterrent since few can drive them.

Re: 3 OTT with tilt? Did GM make it?

According to the option info for 71s and 72s on the GM Heritage Center website, tilt was "available only when optional transmission is ordered". That would rule out 3OTT.

Thanks

Re: 3 OTT with tilt? Did GM make it?

What I did to "make" my floor shift tilt was: took a van tilt I bought for cheap cause the pin [shifter retention pin] was wallowed out like $35 bucks. I then ground off the "ear" that was left by the shifter and put it in park and tacked the shifter arm to the outer body then cut off the ear with a die grinder. I also remover the shifter pointer and welded up the holes and filled the big hole where the shifter had once been smoothed it up primed it with high build primer and have it ready for paint. I have not decided to paint it blitz black so it will look correct or paint it int. color so it will look more late modelish. Jim

Yeah, you can make an automatic column into a floor shift, but can you make a 3 OTT tilt?

Re: 3 OTT with tilt? Did GM make it?

Couldn't you just put a "u joint" in the shift linkage for the tilt to work?

Re: 3 OTT with tilt? Did GM make it?

The biggest issue is getting the push/pull mechanism to select the forward/aft input arm and somehow have the tube assembly rotate clockwise or counter clockwise to rotate the shift arms up and down. I would love to the engineers work it out. The steering column guts are not where I like to do hobby shop style DIY.
