cruise control adjustment?

the cruise control on my 72 seems to be eratic to keep a steady speed. It kicks down and lets off of the gas pretty hard.I dont have to use the gas pedal and it functionally works ,but not as smooth as a newer vehicle.are there any adjustments that can be done?

About the only adjustmant (which probably won't help you) that can be made is to the fitting with the jam nut on the transducer, its the fitting with the vacuum hose on it. That adjustment only affects the set speed, meaning if you set it at 60mph and it cruises at 58 you turn the fitting out a 1/2 turn per mph until it cruises where you set it. You may want to check your throttle spring, if its been replaced with a heavier than normal spring (which happens alot) it will make the cruise system work harder to overcome spring tension.
I have cruise in my 71 and it sure is sweet to go down the road at 65mph while tapping my RIGHT foot to the beat of AM talk radio! :p

Hmmm, I'll have to locate all my cruise control info, (may take a few days, I think it's at *her* house) But if memory serves, you need to tighten the chain going to the throttle rod.

Oh, wait a min, you have a 72, it would be the chain coming from the large vacume deal that tigs on the throttle. Not really surw how it is done up on a 72.

Yes, they cable may need adjustment, just take all of the slop out of the cable with the engine shut off by adjusting at the servo bracket as seen below. I had to stiff a spring on mine for awhile and had the same problem you are having.
